This Week Outlook
Za'Darius Smith has been designated to return and his practice window has opened as a result. Though Smith is eyeing a return for the playoffs he is not guaranteed to play in Green Bay's first playoff game.
Smith's practice window opens up this week which will help him get ready for the Green Bay Packers' first playoff game. Green Bay has a week off due to locking down the top seed in the NFC, so Smith should get some decent reps before his first game back. There is no official date of return, meaning Smith could miss part of the playoffs still. When healthy Smith has achieved the double-digit sack mark in 2019 and 2020. In 2021 he missed nearly the entire season due to injury.
Green Bay Packers LB Za'Darius Smith will be placed on the short-term injured reserve Friday.
Smith is expected to be placed on the short-term injured reserve with a back injury. He has been dealing with a back issue since training camp. “Gonna have to shut him down for a while,” said Packers head coach Matt LaFleur. “Why not try to get him healthy as possible so we can have him more readily available.” This is a big blow to the Packers' defense as the 29-year-old is considered the team’s best pass rusher. Smith racked up 12.5 sacks in 2020. The All-Pro is eligible to return from the IR Week 5 against the Cincinnati Bengals.
Za'Darius Smith racked up seven tackles (six solo) and 3.5 sacks during Monday’s 23-10 win over the Vikings.
Smith is the team leader in sacks with 13.5 through Week 16. He also has 54 tackles and one forced fumbles through the same time period. As long as he continues his sacking streak, he is a low-end LB1 in deeper leagues.
Za’Darius Smith finished Sunday night’s win over the Chiefs with four solo tackles and two sacks.
Smith has the most sacks on the Packers with eight through Week 8. He is worth starting in deeper leagues as he has only totaled 25 tackles during that same period.
Za’Darius Smith ended Monday’s win over the Lions with five total tackles (three solo) and one sack.
Za’Darius Smith is currently siting one sack behind Preston Smith for the team lead and ’sack king.’ Both Smith’s are worth rostering in IDP leagues for their individual ability to get to the QB.
