So much for a potential breakout season for Wilson. He tore his meniscus while weightlifting in May, which required surgery that'll keep him on the shelf for 4-6 months, meaning he'll miss the start of the season (and maybe the whole thing). The 49ers drafted Trey Sermon in the third round, still have Raheem Mostert, and added Wayne Gallman in free agency, so they're not hurting at running back with Wilson out. He's undraftable.

Jeff Wilson Jr. went from my favorite sleeper RB of the season to hard pass starting the year on the PUP list with a knee injury. Wilson had some great moments last season when asked to carry the load. However, with so many running backs on this roster, Wilson could be buried. He's someone to monitor on the waiver wire, but not worth draft capital outside of deep leagues.

Kyle Shanahan has long believed in a four man backfield, but it's always been clear that the runners aren't all equal. Raheem Mostert appears to be the clear lead guy while JaMycal Hasty is the only other contracted back and he hasn't shown enough to be the RB2. That leaves Jeff Wilson, Tevin Coleman, Jerick McKinnon and Austin Walter fighting it out for a couple of spots. Jeff Wilson has unsurprisingly been re-signed and likely slots in as the RB2. That gives him weekly flex value with strong handcuff/backup value for if Mostert goes down.
