Even though he crushed my soul last season, I still haven't gotten off the Royce Freeman hype train. Last season Lindsay became the first RB since 2013 to have over 100 carries at less than 190 pounds. In fact, he joins just Chris Johnson as running backs to get over 190 carries at less than 195 points in that same time frame. Lindsay is just 185 pounds, has a lower BMI than Darren Sproles and Chris Thompson, and is coming off major wrist surgery. I would be surprised if he saw over 190 carries again this season, and I expect Freeman to get a lot more carries than people think. Freeman crushed Lindsay in yards per carry after contact, had a higher juke rate, and had more yards created per carry. It may not have looked like it, but Freeman was the better RB in certain areas last season. Freeman's problem was that he faced 8+ defenders in the box on 36% of his carries. That was the second highest mark in the league. If he can improve upon his receiving abilities this offseason (thus lowering the amount of times teams sell out to stop the run when he's in the backfield), then we should be just as excited to draft him as we were last season.

There are many who've written off Freeman as just a backup, while others are expecting his talent to shine through and earn a bigger role under the new coaching staff. The issue is that Phillip Lindsay is a better pass-catcher, which means he isn't going away. Still, Freeman will have a role in the offense, even if it's in a timeshare. He can deliver low-end flex numbers with RB2 upside if something were to happen to Lindsay.
