Expert NoteView More Notes
Barmore's a strong and dense prospect that has all the tools to be a dominant interior presence for a NFL defense. He's extremely explosive at the LOS for a player of his size and he carries his weight very well. He's able to get up and jump multiple gaps like he's 50 pounds lighter, which is going to have a defensive coordinator drooling at the possibilities. Good lateral agility and able to keep his weight centered as he shifts side to side. Always working to get into a position to make a play on the ball. Good pass rush skills right now, but also shows areas where he can improve. His arms tend to come up high on offensive lineman and he ends up trying to move them at their shoulders. Also needs to develop a bull rush pass move. He has a ton of power that doesn't get utilized properly. He's constantly trying to swim or swipe, which leads to hands rising up and then him being eliminated from the play. If he can learn to engage, straighten his arms, and walk back offensive lineman, he'll be a disruptive force. Shows good mental processing chops, but he's still inexperienced as a player. Only 22 games under his belt and he still has room to grow in understanding run concepts and how to play positioning. Has a hot/cold motor from time to time. Some games, he's constantly moving and churning his legs to chase down the ball-carrier or QB. Other games, he's not as engaged and can find himself being moved easily out of the play. Solid run defender though that still has room for improvement. Brings a dual threat capacity to a defensive line that will ask him to line up as a 2i tech and disrupt the pocket on passing downs. Still raw, but has tremendous upside.

Christian Barmore selected No. 38 by New England Patriots
The New England Patriots have selected defensive tackle Christian Barmore with the No. 38 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.
Barmore is a versatile defensive tackle who should be a seamless fit with the Patriots offensive scheme. The Patriots traded up to ensure they landed Barmore, a player many view as the top defensive tackle in the class. He ran a little hot and cold on tape, but he can be a game wrecker when he is on. An athletic pressure creator who wins with power, Barmore should immediately improve the Patriots defensive front.
