View More NotesThe Chargers' backfield has become an unwieldy three-man committee with Omarion Hampton the chairman and Keaton Mitchell and Kimani Vidal also involved.
Hampton played 29 snaps Sunday in the Chargers' loss to the Bills, Mitchell played 26 snaps, and Vidal played 17. Hampton led the Chargers with 15 carries, but Mitchell had 8-52-0 rushing and had three catches that netted minus-5 yards. Mitchell scored a touchdown on a jet sweep that went down as a pass reception.
As of now, Hampton is the only Chargers RB with standalone value, but Hampton has at times seemed like a square peg in Mike McDaniel's round-hole offense. McDaniel advocated for the Chargers to add Mitchell in the offseason, and his blazing speed gives McDaniel a somewhat watered-down version of De'Von Achane, whom McDaniel used to great effect in Miami.
An investment in Mitchell might not bear fruit right away, and perhaps not at all. But Mitchell is an interesting speculative play.

Fantasy Impact
Mitchell has made a modest impact out of the backfield to begin the season, finishing with less than 50 offensive yards in each of the first three games. The running back remains one of many in an underperforming Chargers offense difficult to trust ahead of a Week 4 contest against the Seattle Seahawks.
