La'Mical Perine
RB - NYJ
This Week Outlook
Expert Note
View More NotesExtremely elusive player for his size. Good size and solidly built. Cut down and gained explosiveness from 2018 tape to 2019 tape. Decent vision. Keeps his feet churning to control momentum and explode through the openings his OL creates. OL wasn't spectacular, so Perine was left to create on his own frequently. Excellent burst. Hits an opening and explodes through it. Can accelerate to 60 insanely quick and will catch a safety napping and taking the wrong angle. Great burst that's set up by his footwork though. Good ability to plant his foot and explode. Carries his size well and has great body control. Aids in his ability to change direction quickly and go vertical. Struggles with lateral agility from time to time, but shows enough on tape to not be overly concerned. Decent power aspect to his game, but is not going to consistently drive defenders backwards. Struggles in the RZ to punch the ball in at the goal line, but could've been issues with the OL. Great top-end speed to combine with his burst. Able to consistently pull away from defenders and has a home run threat aspect to his game. Excellent contact balance. Several instances on tape of a defender attempting to wrap up and he pulls away and evades the tackle. Whether through explosive contact or a defender wrapping up at the legs, Perine seems to consistently break free and fall forward. Always falling forward to pick up yardage. Great in the receiving game and was used in this role constantly at Florida. Whether on swing routes out of the backfield or angle routes, he's able to excel in those contested windows. Great hand-eye coordination. May not be the best back in this class from a receiving ability perspective, but is up there. Willing participant in pass protection, but doesn't exactly excel. Consistently driven backwards on tape. Overall, intriguing prospect who has the opportunity to rise in this draft process. Has the size to be a 3-down back and the skillset to match.
