Onwuzurike is a 2020 opt-out player that lined up all over the line for Washington. He has a springy first step and can get up and out of his stance very quickly. He'll be able to push the pocket and move it simply based off of his speed and attack off the LOS. Good lateral agility. Carries his weight extremely well and would be a threat on stunts and loops. Wasn't asked to do that on the film I watched, but he certainly would thrive in that type of role. Lacks refined pass-rush technique. Doesn't attack with a plan and often loses positioning because of it. Doesn't have a counter move often when he's blocked, but does continue to fight due to his motor. Has the want and desire, but just has plenty to improve upon before he can be considered a true threat. Attacks off the line with good leverage, but fails to maintain it. Tends to come up high and let lineman underneath him and push up his arms, which renders his pass-rush useless. Good power for his frame and functional play strength, but won't consistently be moving lineman out of his way by sheer force. High motor player and fights until the whistle blows. Good in run defense and keeps his eyes in the backfield. Still has room to grow as far as keeping his frame clean to put himself in even better positions, but the foundation is there. Overall, Onwuzurike still has plenty of room left to grow, but the tools and traits are there. Now, it's about refining his pass rush technique and figuring out where on the line is his best fit. Most likely a Day 2 pick.

Levi Onwuzurike selected No. 41 by Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions have selected DT Levi Onwuzurike with the No. 41 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft.

Fantasy Impact

Detroit continues jumpstarting their rebuild through the trenches. One night after taking Oregon OL Penei Sewell, the Lions take the Washington product in Onwuzurike. It's clear what coach Dan Campbell envisions his culture looking like.
