Daniil Tarasov shines in shootout loss to Rangers
by Bruno Mulé | Panthers Correspondent | Sun, Jan 19th 1:45pm EST
Daniil Tarasov made 26 saves in regulation and overtime and stopped two of three shootout attempts in a 1-0 loss to the Rangers on Saturday. The 25-year-old earned his first shutout of the season through 65 minutes but was beaten low to the blocker side by Vincent Trocheck in the shootout, marking the game's lone goal.
Fantasy Impact:
Tarasov has shown improved form since his conditioning stint in the AHL, allowing just two goals on 51 shots over his last two starts. While Elvis Merzlikins has a solid 7-2-1 record over his last 10 games, his subpar 3.04 GAA and .894 save percentage could open the door for Tarasov to carve out a larger role. Fantasy managers in deeper leagues should keep an eye on his workload, as he could gain value in a potential timeshare in the Columbus crease.
