Phillip Danault heading back to Montreal
by David Leisering | Kings Correspondent | Sat, Dec 20th 8:47am EST
The Montreal Canadiens are bringing back forward Phillip Danault after completing a trade with the Los Angeles Kings on Friday night. Heading back to Los Angeles in the deal is Montreal's second-round pick (originally belonging to the Columbus Blue Jackets) in the 2026 NHL Draft. (NHL on X)
Fantasy Impact:
The 32-year-old Danault, who is in his 12th NHL season, spent five-and-a-half years in Montreal before leaving for Los Angeles as a free agent following the 2020-21 campaign. Signed through the 2026-27 season, Danault has just five assists through 30 games this season. He scored a career-high 27 goals in his first season with the Kings and is coming off of a 43-point campaign a year ago. He has 399 career points, including 125 goals, in 741 career regular-season games. Danault will make his return to the Habs' lineup (most likely on Sunday) as Montreal plays a home-and-home series with Pittsburgh. He should see an uptick in scoring while filling a middle-six role with the Canadiens.
