The Maple Leafs found themselves up 3-2 early in the third period when Rittich suddenly began to struggle to keep the Canucks offense at bay. He gave up three unanswered goals within a span of nearly seven minutes. Toronto was unable to recover. Rittich's record will drop to 4-8-2 with a 2.98 GAA and 0.899 save percentage through 14 starts this year.
David Rittich had to come in and relieve fellow teammate Jack Campbell after he surrendered three goals on only six shots faced in the first period of play. Rittich finished the game stopping 16 of 17 shots faced as Toronto would lose 5-2.
Rittich's strong efforts were not enough to get Toronto out of their early jam. Still it was encouraging to see that if Campbell begins to waiver in his playing ability, Rittich seems like a solid option to fall back on until starter Frederik Andersen returns.
