Kasperi Kapanen had a goal and assist during a 5-1 win versus New Jersey. It was his first game back after missing the previous 13 due to a lower-body injury.
In 31 games, Kapanen has eight goals and 15 assists with a plus-14 rating. It was his first goal since March 9th.
Kapanen is expected to arrive in Pittsburgh on Jan 9th and has missed the first four days of practice with his new team due to an immigration issue. It is unlikely he will be ready for the season opener because he will have to quarantine for seven days due to NHL rules.
He is expected to get some playing time on the top line with Sidney Crosby which would make him a quality fantasy option in the later rounds of the draft. Last season in Toronto he scored 13 goals and had 23 assists in 69 games.
Kasperi Kapanen provided some offense for the Leafs with a pair of assists in Thursday's 4-3 loss to the Blue Jackets.
Kasperi Kapanen will need more efforts like this to keep the points coming for the Leafs forward.
Kasperi Kapanen got the offense going on Saturday night during Toronto's 4-3 shootout win in Philadelphia. The speedster had a goal, an assist, two penalty minutes, a shot and a hit in 14:51 of ice-time.
The 23-year-old has been a bit unpredictable so far this season. Saturday's game in Philadephia was his third multi-point game of the season, but he's only managed to record a point in six of the Leafs' 15 games this year. While Kapanen has shown the skill to produce offensively, Mike Babcock has him on the third line and as one of his go-to penalty killers. His ice-time is decent and consistent in this role, but his offensive production is harder to predict as a result. He has 10 points (four goals, six assists) and is averaging 16:46 of ice-time so far this year.
Kasperi Kapanen scored two goals as the Maple Leafs defeated the Colorado Avalanche 5-2 Wednesday.
Kapanen could be entering one of the hot streaks that have been a calling card of his 2018-19 campaign. He's worthy of a flyer for teams in need of a scoring boost.
