Valeri Nichushkin scored his 12th of the year in Colorado's 4-3 OT home-loss to the Tampa Bay Lightning on Monday. He tallied a goal, one shot and five hits.
The goal came off a Cale Makar point shot that happened to hit him in the body and bounced top corner. It wasn't the prettiest but they'll take as the Avalanche were able to salvage a point in the game. He's up to twelve goals and 24 points this year, two goals away from his personal best of 14.

Nichushkin and his line did damage to Buffalo in this one, finding ways to get open and score goals. His was a handy wrist shot from the slot that burned Hutton blocker-side top shelf. The Avs second line was looking solid before the All-star break and have continued the momentum. Keep an eye on him (as well as Kadri and Burakovsky) for streaming options. They play two more games this week. Nichushkin is up to nine goals and 21 points.

Nichushkin was driving down the side boards very early in the bout and found himself fighting off Brent Burns. He went to the net and slid one through Martin Jones five hole. He's up to eight goals and 17 points along with a very nice plus-16 rating in his first year with Colorado.

Nichushkin put up a Gordie Howe hat-trick in this one by adding a fight to his two points. The goal he scored was the seventh of the game which a defender tried to launch a zone-clearing back hand but hit Nichushkin square in the forehead and rolled through Fleury for the goal. He's up to seven goals and 13 points this season and is on pace for a personal best in goals scored.

Nichushkin beat Domingue with a wrist shot on his off hand from the top of the circle. It looked like it should of been stopped but his follow through knocked the defenders stick and could of forced his eye off the puck for a second, which was more than enough for it to go past him low blocker side. Don't look now but Nichushkin has three goals and four points through his last five games and appears to be finding his stride with his new team. His career high in goals (14) came with the Dallas Stars back in his 2013 rookie campaign and he is on pace to beat that if he's able to keep the momentum. If you're in a pinch and have an empty position to fill, give the hulking forward a look for a pop-and-drop.
