Zdeno Chara becomes the seventh player to enter COVID-19 protocol for the Islanders.
Defenseman Thomas Hickey was called up from Bridgeport to fill the void in the Islanders' defense.
Zdeno Chara had two points in the Capitals 6-3 win over the Islanders on Thursday. Chara was a plus two with one goal, one assist and one SOG in 22:55 of ice-time.
Chara was once time one of the top defensemen in the league. Now at age 43 the 6'9" Chara is just holding on in the league as a very good defensive defenseman. Chara now has one goal and two assists thru eight games this season.
After 14-seasons with the Boston Bruins, Chara signed a one-year $795,000 contract with the Washington Capitals. The 43-year old defenseman spurned the Bruins who offered a reduced role to stay with the club.
At this stage of his career, Chara is likely to see time on the second or third defense pairing. Last season in 68 games he posted five goals and nine assists.
Bruins veteran defenseman Zdeno Chara will see action this Sunday night for Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Finals.
After breaking his jaw earlier in the series, Zdeno Chara made himself available for Game 5 and he will do the same for Game 6 Sunday as well. The 42-year old veteran will look to keep his team alive in the series with a win in Game 6 and forcing a seventh game Wednesday night.
Chara took a puck to the face in the second period of game 4 against the Blues. Chara will be re-evaluated in Boston and the team is making plans in case he can’t play Wednesday.
Losing Chara would be a big blow for the bruins as he is the heart and soul of the defense. Look for an update closer to game time.
