Samuel Girard has signed a seven-year, $35 million extension with the Avalanche. (Source: TSN)

Fantasy Impact: Samuel Girard has become a key member of the Colorado Avalanche defense over the past two-seasons. Girard finished the 2018-19 season with 4 goals and 27 points, while playing nearly 20 minutes a game. At only 21-years old it is a safe bet that his offensive production will continue to grow. Along with Cale Makar, and Bowen Byram, Girard will be part of one of the most exciting young defense corps in the NHL. There is still plenty of opportunity for growth for Samuel Girard in 2019-20, as he will be counted on to help offset the loss of Tyson Barrie.

J.T. Compher and the Colorado Avalanche have avoided arbitration and agreed to terms on a four-year deal that will pay the winger $14 million. (Source: Elliotte Friedman on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Compher is coming off of a career-best season in what was his second "full" year in the NHL. He tallied 16 goals and 16 assists for 32 points in 66 games. Unfortunately, the 24-year-old has yet to crack the 70 game mark in his young career, having dealt with injuries - including a concussion - in the past. In spite of this, the Avalanche clearly still believe in his abilities by signing him to this deal. But from a fantasy perspective, there's better options out there.

Pavel Francouz will serve as the number two goalie in Colorado next year as the Avs lost Semyon Varlamov to the New York Islanders as an RFA.

Fantasy Impact: Philipp Grubauer seized the opportunity last year and ran away with the starting gig. He was a big reason why the Avalanche were in the playoffs and did as well they did. We're not entirely certain if Grubauer will see the vast majority of starts but it's likely, based on his play last year and Francouz' new NHL surroundings.

Philipp Grubauer allowed three goals on 27 shots faced by the Sharks in Colorado's 3-2 loss Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact: Grubauer played well this post-season as he nearly helped his squad advance to the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2002. He will conclude the 2019 playoffs with a 7-5 record, along with a 2.30 GAA and a 0.925 SV%.

Colorado's star Nathan MacKinnon was held without a point for the third straight game in this series against the Sharks.

Fantasy Impact: After scoring goals in three straight games against the Sharks earlier in the series, the exact opposite occurred during the final three games of round two. MacKinnon was held in check by San Jose's defense which most likely played a huge factor in Colorado losing to San Jose in the Western Conference Semi Finals. He will end the 2019 post-season with six goals, seven assists, and a minus-four rating through 12 games played.

Tyson Jost buried his third consecutive goal of the playoffs just 51 seconds into the third period of Game Seven against San Jose Wednesday.

Fantasy Impact: Jost was beginning to catch fire in these playoffs as he scored his third consecutive goal of the post-season in Colorado's Game Seven loss to the Sharks. He will end the post-season with three goals, an assist, and a plus-three rating in 12 games played.

Mikko Rantanen potted his sixth goal of the post-season with seven seconds remaining in the first period to cut San Jose's lead in half 2-1. Unfortunately for Colorado, the Sharks would hold on to win 3-2 and advance to the Western Conference Finals.

Fantasy Impact: Rantanen had a very productive post-season for the Avalanche as expected. In 12 games played, he scored six goals, dished out eight assists, and maintained a minus-one rating. The sky seems to be the limit for the third-year Finnish star and will look to have an even stronger regular season for the Avalanche in 2019.

Gabriel Landeskog potted the game-winning OT goal against the San Jose Sharks Monday as Colorado was able to stave off elimination and force a Game Seven in the series.

Fantasy Impact: That was Landeskog's 10th career post-season goal scored and it came up in a huge way as the Avalanche were able to survive Game Six against the Sharks. He currently has seven points and a minus-one rating in 11 games played this post-season. The captain will look to lead his troops to victory at the "Shark Tank" this Wednesday night in a decisive Game Seven battle.

Cale Makar provided the secondary assist on Thursday night helping the Avalanche defeat the visiting San Jose Sharks 3-0 at home. He finished the game with one point, a plus-1 rating, four hits and one block.

Fantasy Impact: He took a point shot that ended up hitting Mikko Rantanen to which he got onto his stick and sent over to Nathan Mackinnon. Makar has looked game ready since he was called up to the bigs and help fill the gap that was left by an injured Sam Girard. He is very confident with the puck while using his moves and speed to get open and make plays. Colorado has a lot of youth on their team along with raw talent and clearly, is having a positive effect on the scoreboard. With the series even at 2-2, Colorado heads south for game 5 in San Jose.

Matt Nieto potted a goal 11:45 into the third period to tie up Game Three 2-2. Unfortunately for Colorado, San Jose would score two unanswered goals to secure the win.

Fantasy Impact: Nieto has been very effective this post-season for the Avalanche, as he has produced six points in eight games played.

Matt Calvert will not participate in Tuesday's action against the Sharks due to an injury he sustained on a hard hit by Brent Burns in Game Two Sunday. (Source: Pierre LeBrun on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Calvert has three assists in the seven playoff games he has played this year. He hopes to get back on the ice soon to help his team reach the Western Conference Finals for the first time since 2002.

Erik Johnson scored just his second ever career post-season goal in Colorado's 6-2 win over the Calgary Flames Monday night.

Fantasy Impact: Johnson has produced two points and owns an even plus/minus rating through three playoff games played up until this point.

Tyson Barrie got the Avs on the board in Thursday night's playoff-clinching OT victory over the visiting Winnipeg Jets. He finished the game with one point, three shots and two blocks.

Fantasy Impact: Barrie showed up once again in a pivotal victory for Colorado. He completely sniped a top-shelfer on the short side, over Connor Hellebyuck's shoulder to get the Avs on the board right when they needed one. With the victory, Colorado clinches the final playoff berth over the Arizona Coyotes and will see the post season for the second straight year. There is still one game remaining but Barrie is up to 14 goals and a career-high 59 points this season. He is a big reason the Avalanche have been coming down the final stretch hot.

Colin Wilson potted a goal in the Avs much needed 6-2 home victory over the Edmonton Oilers, helping keep distance on the trailing Arizona Coyotes for the final playoff position. He finished the night with one point, a minus-1 rating, three shots, one hit and one block.

Fantasy Impact: The goal he scored was what appeared to be slow motion spin-o-rama that beat the Oilers tender. It wasn't the prettiest we've seen but it was effective and counted. Wilson has been a silent beauty for the Avs in their late season push as he's taking elbows to the face, drawing blood, and working in the tough spots to come out with the puck and make plays happen. Grit isn't something you'll see on the score sheet but he has plenty of it. He's up to 12 goals and 26 points this year.

Alexander Kerfoot continued his excellent late-season, playoff-pushing performance on Tuesday night by scoring two goals to help the Avs down the Oilers 6-2 for a big win. He ended the game with two points, a plus-2 rating and four shots.

Fantasy Impact: Kerfoot is now up to four goals and eight points total in his last six games. He has stepped up for his team in the earlier absence of captain Gabriel Landeskog and is still picking up the slack left by the injured Mikko Rantanen. His first goal was due to solid positioning as he found a rebound right on his stick to which he buried and ended up being the game winning goal. His second was questionable as the ref called it off, went for review and was ruled no goal, only for the Avs to challenge and get it overturned. It did appear to be goalie interference at first but the puck was over the line before the interference occurred and was ruled in. The effort brings him to 15 goals and 42 points on the season. He appears to be shaping up well for the Avs and hopefully will develop into a solid depth player for them.

Semyon Varlamov was the winning goalie on Tuesday night, backstopping the Avalanche to a huge 6-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers. He stopped 27 of the 29 shots he faced.

Fantasy Impact: It was his first start since March 15th vs Anaheim and he held his ground well. Surely, the goal that Darnell Nurse scored on him he'd want back as he limped a shot on him from the goal line that banked off his inner arm and went in. Aside from that he performed when he needed to and helped the Avs keep the trailing Arizona Coyotes in check with two games remaining. The win brings him to 19-18-9 with a respectable 2.86 GAA and .910 save percentage this year. Grubauer has been playing well lately so don't be surprised to see Varly take a seat in the next one.

Carl Soderberg was a man on a mission during Wednesday nights 7-1 beat down of the visiting Winnipeg Jets. He finished the game with three points, a plus-4 rating, 5 SOG and two blocks.

Fantasy Impact: A much needed performance from Colorado's depth players as it's been a rough month for them. He opened the scoring in the game by burying a rebound off a Tyson Jost shot. The assists weren't that pretty but count nonetheless and brings him up to 19 goals and 18 assists on the year. Colorado will need to take this game as a push-off point for March and carry momentum if they want to see the post-season.

Sven Andrighetto set up two goals in Wednesday nights 7-1 home win over the Winnipeg Jets. He finished the game with two points, a plus-2 rating, and one hit.

Fantasy Impact: He had the primary helper on Tyson Jost's goal while getting the secondary on Carl Soderberg's. It was a good night for the Avs offense and they will need a lot more efforts like this from their depth lines if they want to see the post-season. That's his 4th and 5th assist of the season and brings him to 4 goals and 9 points.

Jonathan Bernier stopped 39-of-40 shots during Colorado's 2-1 win at Pittsburgh.

Fantasy Impact: He played a great game holding the potent Penguins offense to just one goal. It was his first win since November 22nd and he now as a 5-6-1 record in 12 games played.

Nail Yakupov scored two goals helping Colorado to a 4-0 shutout win at Boston. He had four shots on goal in 10:39 minutes of ice time.

Fantasy Impact: He didn't see much ice time, but made the minutes that he did play count by tallying two goals. Yakupov scored just three goals last season in 40 games while playing for the St. Louis Blues and is not exactly pickup material yet for fantasy rosters but he is on a talented second line for Colorado with Matt Duchene and Alexander Kerfoot. He is worth keeping an eye on as the season moves along.
