Brandon Davies makes first NBA start

For the third time early in the 2014-15 season, Brandon Davies scored in double figures for the Philadelphia 76ers. What made this night different was that for the first time in his NBA career, the former BYU basketball standout earned the start. Davies scored 13 points in the 76ers' 104-93 loss to the Houston Rockets on Monday night at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. The 6-foot-10 power forward hit 5 of 10 shots from the field — as well as 2 of 3 from the free-throw line — and added four rebounds, three assists and a blocked shot. He played his most effective minutes in the first half. When the teams went to the break with the Rockets ahead 55-54, Davies had nine points, two rebounds and two assists in 13 minutes. He finished the night playing 24 minutes. One area where Davies, a second-year pro, struggled was late-game shot selection. Brandon Davies could earn another start on Wednesday night. If he finishes with another productive game he could squeeze out the struggling Harry Sims and earn the starting PF spot with Nerlen Noels moving to center. Davies is not a candidate for standard leagues but should be looked at in deeper leagues.
