Fantasy Football Injury Recap: Week 12

Fantasy Football Injury Recap: Week 12
Lamar Miller

Will Lamar Miller miss time after exiting Week 12’s game early?

The smoke cleared from Week 12, but the return of some familiar faces prevents us from celebrating too much. Let’s take a look at who’s okay, who might be okay, who’s going to miss some time and who you should target as a replacement.

Quarterbacks

Derek Carr (OAK): dislocated pinkie

Carr only missed one series, but he wasn’t quite himself when he came back. There’s a bit of worry since the injury was to his throwing hand, but the fact that he finished the game is a good sign for his Week 13 availability.

Next up: Matt McGloin

If Carr does happen to miss time, it’s unlikely McGloin is the remedy you’re looking for.

Running Backs

Lamar Miller (HOU): undisclosed ankle injury

Miller hobbled off the field in the fourth quarter and there haven’t been any reports as to the severity of the injury.

Next up: Akeem Hunt, Jonathan Grimes

Both Alfred Blue and Tyler Ervin are already banged up, so this whole situation is a mess. Blue could be worth picking up if he’s healthy, but otherwise, this is destined to be an irritating committee you’ll want to avoid.

Chris Ivory (JAX): undisclosed hamstring injury

It was Ivory’s time to shine with T.J. Yeldon suiting up at less than full strength. Naturally, Ivory went down in the first quarter and didn’t return. There’s been no word on the severity of the injury.

Next up: Denard Robinson

Robinson led the Jags’ running backs in touches this week, though there’s no way of knowing whether that will continue with Yeldon banged up and Ivory’s status unclear. Robinson would be a worthy bench stash for those heavily relying on Yeldon or Ivory.

Wide Receivers

T.Y. Hilton (IND): undisclosed back injury

Hilton missed the second half of Indy’s loss to Pittsburgh on Thanksgiving and didn’t practice on Monday. He thinks he’s going to be okay, for what it’s worth.

Next up: Phillip Dorsett

Donte Moncrief would become the top target in Indy, but Dorsett is a similar player to Hilton and would step in fairly well if necessary. Those who got burned using Dorsett when Moncrief was injured shouldn’t be scared off if Dorsett replaces Hilton. You’d obviously rather have Hilton, but Dorsett is a decent consolation.

Tyrell Williams (SD): undisclosed shoulder injury

Williams exited in the fourth quarter and didn’t return. There was no update on his status. It will be a shame if he misses time, as he’s turned into San Diego’s top option and saw 14 targets on Sunday.

Next up: Dontrelle Inman

Inman was the number two receiver ahead of Travis Benjamin, who’s still dealing with a knee injury. Inman’s at least a WR3 with upside if Williams misses any time.

Tight Ends

Rob Gronkowski (NE): undisclosed back injury

Gronkowski’s Wheel of Injury landed on “back” this week. He’s not expected to miss time but was also having trouble walking after the game. Just another day in the life of a Gronkowski owner.

Next up: Martellus Bennett

Bennett isn’t totally healthy either. He still appears to be struggling with the ankle injury he suffered against Cleveland in Week 5. He’s been very inconsistent but has massive upside every week.

Jordan Reed (WAS): AC joint sprain

Reed’s shoulder injury was both severe and painful, but he may not miss any games. Look for him to skip Washington’s practices and try to suit up in Week 13.

Next up: Vernon Davis

With Washington’s offense firing on all cylinders, Davis would be a mid-to-high-end TE1 if Reed sits. All Reed owners should add Davis if he’s available.

Reexaminations

Quarterbacks

Andrew Luck (IND)
Luck returned to practice and is on track to clear the concussion protocol and play against the Jets on Monday night.

Running Backs

Ryan Mathews (PHI)
Mathews won’t play Monday night. Wendell Smallwood and possibly Darren Sproles will carry the load.

Wide Receivers

Stefon Diggs (MIN)
Diggs returned to practice on Monday and could play in Week 13.
