Fantasy Football Injury Report: Week 8

Fantasy Football Injury Report: Week 8

Welcome to the dreaded injury report. Professional football is a violent game, and your fantasy players are going to miss time because of it. Week 8 saw a handful of injuries, but most appear to be minor. As always, hopefully, you don’t have many names on this list.

Zach Miller (TE – CHI)
On an impressive touchdown catch that was inexplicably overturned, literally adding insult to injury, Zach Miller dislocated his knee, which will end his season and almost certainly his career. As of this writing, surgeons are attempting to save Miller’s leg. This is truly a horrific situation and I hope Miller is able to recover and live a normal life. Fantasy football is the last thing on our minds when it comes to Miller.

Chris Hogan (WR – NE)
Chris Hogan suffered a shoulder injury on a hard hit late in the Patriots’ win over the Chargers. He was spotted with his arm in a sling after the game. With the Patriots on bye next week, Hogan will have two full weeks to get healthy. If he can’t, Danny Amendola will see increased usage and we will likely see more of Phillip Dorsett, which is never a good thing.

Pierre Garcon (WR – SF)
The 49ers number one receiver was injured on a second-quarter collision with a defender. He appeared to suffer a neck injury, but no official diagnosis was provided. He did not return to the game. The 49ers don’t have any particularly talented pass catchers. If Garcon can’t play this week, you just bench him and look elsewhere for a replacement.

Jordan Reed (TE – WAS)
After battling through toe and chest injuries, Jordan Reed finally looked fully healthy last week. Sure enough, he pulled up lame on a route Sunday holding his hamstring. He was able to jog off the field and did not appear to be limping, but he did not return. We all know the drill at this point. If Reed is out, Vernon Davis is on the map as a TE1 streamer and even more so this week given that third string TE Niles Paul was also injured on Sunday. Reed definitely has a shot to play this week, but I wouldn’t count on it.

Cole Beasley (WR – DAL)
This one isn’t super fantasy relevant, but Cole Beasley did suffer a concussion in the Cowboys’ win over the Redskins. Ryan Switzer is essentially a better version of Beasley and he would assume the same role should Beasley not clear the protocol by Sunday. Neither has been a fantasy option, but Switzer is the more likely of the two to become relevant should his role increase.
