After an ugly four-game slate on Monday, Tuesday’s 14 games of MLB action offer up a much better list of pitchers to consider and matchups to exploit. Lineup construction could prove difficult on Tuesday with high-priced Aces on the hill such as Max Scherzer and Corey Kluber that we want to pay up for and limited cheap bats available. What to do, what to do?
As always, be sure to pay close attention to the lineups when they are released and monitor the weather leading up to game time. Pitchers
Max Scherzer (WAS): $13,300 vs. TB
Max Scherzer has been a monster on the mound all season long. He has topped 27 DraftKings points in eight of his last nine starts including four games over the 36 DK point mark. Scherzer has been especially dominating at home where he is averaging 36.5 DK points through five starts. He’ll draw a matchup on Tuesday against the Rays as a huge home favorite. The Rays have been league average in most offensive categories against righties this season but look for them to be far from average against Mad Max on Tuesday.
Jason Vargas (NYM): $5,000 vs. BAL
If we are going to roster Scherzer then we must find value somewhere. I’m not seeing enough value bats on the slate, so instead, I will roll the dice with a cheap #2 pitcher to save some salary. Jason Vargas is far from a safe bet but he does have some things working for him on Tuesday. He has pitched well in two of his last three starts with games of 17.5 and 27.5 DK points. Vargas is also pitching at home as a small favorite over the Orioles who have struggled mightily against lefties recently with a league-worst wOBA (.232) and wRC+ (41) over the last 14 days. He is not without risk but Vargas only needs to have a decent outing when pairing him with an elite pitcher like Scherzer and some of the bats you can now afford.

Hitters
Mitch Moreland (BOS – 1B): $4,600 vs. DET
Mitch Moreland has been swinging a pretty hot bat for the Red Sox including going 3-for-4 with a homer on Sunday. After running through the gauntlet of Astros aces over the weekend a matchup against the Tigers will be a welcome sight for Moreland and the Red Sox hitters. Moreland has a .505 wOBA and .370 ISO at home against righties this season and will face young righty Artie Lewicki making just his second big league start.
Brandon Nimmo (NYM – OF): $4,400 vs. BAL
Brandon Nimmo has been putting up a lot of crooked numbers recently with at least nine DraftKings points in five of his last six games. Nimmo has been crushing righties this season with a .475 wOBA and .344 ISO and will face right-hander Alex Cobb who has been dreadful this season allowing a .472 wOBA and 1.96 HR/9 to lefties. Make sure your lineup is finding Nimmo in it.
Matt Chapman (OAK – 3B): $4,100 @ TEX
Matt Chapman has been batting second on occasion recently against lefties. He has fared well on the road this season including a .356 wOBA and .231 ISO against lefties. He’ll get a significant park upgrade for hitting playing in the heat of Texas on Tuesday night against southpaw Matt Moore who has allowed a .390 wOBA to righties this year.
Marcus Semien (OAK – SS): $4,100 @ TEX
Look to double down on A’s hitters on Tuesday with Marcus Semien. Semien has a solid .337 wOBA and .200 ISO against lefties on the road this season. Meanwhile, the A’s have one of the highest Vegas implied run totals on the slate with good reason as opposing pitcher Moore has allowed at least four runs in four of his last five starts.
Ian Kinsler (LAA – 2B): $3,500 vs. KC
Ian Kinsler may have finally cooled off going hitless in his last two games. However, if there is one thing that could allow him to restart another hot streak it is the Royals bullpen. Royals starter only went three innings in his first start and will likely remain on a slightly incremented pitch count on Tuesday leaving plenty of innings for a Royals bullpen that has the third highest ERA (5.65) and HR/9 rate (1.41) in the majors this season.
