FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Thursday (10/25)

FanDuel NHL Lineup Advice: Thursday (10/25)

There are 10 games on tap tonight in one of the biggest NHL slates on the season. Only one game opened at a 6.5-goal total for this evening’s matchups. As players get adjusted to the speed and their schemes, goals will be harder to find. That being said, there will be plenty of offense to be found with 20 teams in action. Most teams have played around eight to nine games so far, thus trends are starting to take place. There is enough sample size data to make predictions on outcomes with confidence.

Center

Connor McDavid (EDM): $9,200 vs. WAS
There is probably no need to explain how Connor McDavid is worth a look in DFS each night he takes the ice. However, there are certain scenarios where paying up for the best player in the world make more sense. To start, the Oilers captain is a gamer. He will be excited for the matchup against Alex Ovechkin and the defending Stanley Cup Champions. Second, Edmonton has had a rough start to open the season. They started the year by playing in Sweden against the Devils, then traveled to Boston, played at Madison Square Garden, at Winnipeg, had their home opener to the Predators and finally just hosted the Penguins. The positive note to take in this nightmare of a schedule is that McDavid has produced 13 points in six games. Tonight, the Caps are in town and Conner will see a lot of Evgeny Kuznetsov and Alex Ovechkin. He should avoid Nicklas Backstrom and the second forward line, who is much more defensively sound. With so many other center options, McDavid will go overlooked in a game where he should continue to produce his average 24.4 FanDuel, points or more.

Artem Anisimov (CHI): $4,400 vs. NYR
The New York Rangers are traveling to the United Center, where they will play against the Chicago Blackhawks, who are on fire. Chicago is off to a 5-2-2 start and now have a healthy Corey Crawford. The top forward line for the Hawks has received a lot of praise for their offensive outpour, however, Patrick Kane is seemingly going overlooked each night out. Artem Anisimov has jumped up to the second line, where he will center Kane and Brandon Saad. Last game was the first outing Anisimov played on this line and he recorded his highest ice-time all season. After putting up a fantastic season with Kane in 2017-18, it will only be a matter of time before the two get their chemistry back on track and put up multi-point performances.

Wing

Patrick Kane (CHI): $8,600 vs. NYR
As mentioned above, it seems like Kane is going a little overlooked. With all of the amazing young talent in the league, the Blackhawks are flying under the radar a bit. Kane has 13 points to start the season and has taken off right where he left off from a season ago. On the road, this season, the New York Rangers own a 46.76 CF% and have been outscored nine goals to 15. New York is a team who likes to push the pace of play and should be skating up and down the ice, all game, providing plenty of offensive chances for both teams.

Brandon Saad (CHI): $4,600 vs. NYR
The third part of a Blackhawks stack is Brandon Saad. Although he does not play on the power-play with Patrick Kane and Artem Anisimov, Saad is an important piece to the second forward line and will provide salary relief. Saad is coming off a two-goal performance against the Ducks which was a much more defensively played game. Although Vegas disagrees, this game should be one of, if not the, highest scoring games of the night.

Jake DeBrusk (BOS): $4,700 vs. PHI
The majority of the Bruins offense has come from Patrice Bergeron and the rest of the Boston top line. Finding secondary scoring has been a bit of a struggle so far to start the season but this will change. Tonight, the top line will have their hands full with Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux. This should leave plenty of opportunities for the second unit. They have an opportunity to break out in a big way against one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL. The Flyers have allowed the second-most goals against and will be outmatched in Boston.

Johnny Gaudreau (CGY): $7,900 vs. PIT
It is important in DFS to target players on teams who have the majority of their offense flow through them. This may seem like an obvious statement but there are few teams in the NHL where you know where the offense is coming each night. In Calgary, Johnny Gaudreau is that guy. Johnny hockey has recorded 12 points in nine games. The Flames, as a team, have scored 17 goals. What is most intriguing is the High Danger Goals For advanced statistic. This year, Calgary leads the league, with 21 HDGF. The Pens have allowed 15 of their 24 goals against as a high danger goal. Gaudreau is incredible at making his own space and creating offense out of nowhere, leading to high danger opportunities.

Defense

Duncan Keith (CHI): $5,400 vs. NYR
The final piece to a Blackhawks stack is offensive defensemen, Duncan Keith. Keith is a savvy veteran who is a great skater and better play-maker. He is averaging 24 minutes a night and 11.3 FanDuel points. Playing on the top power-play unit with Anisimov and Kane, Keith is a perfect pairing on the backend to finalize a Hawks stack in a high-event game.

Matt Grzelcyk (BOS): $3,800 vs. PHI
You would think the defensemen playing on the top power-play unit for the Boston Bruins would have a goal by now. He does not. Tonight is the night. With Torey Krug and Charlie McAvoy dealing with a day-to-day injury, Matt Grzelcyk will be leaned on for his offense. With five assists so far, he just needs to fire the puck on net more. In a game where the Bruins should put up goals, the young defensemen have upside at a reasonable price.

Goalie

Tuukka Rask (BOS): $8,400 vs. PHI
The Bruins are heavy favorites in this one and should win it handily. Tuukka Rask has not been all that sharp to start the season but his skill is still elite. Hosting one of the worst defensive teams in the NHL, the Bruins should easily find offense and have the advantage when it comes to line-matching. Where the win is vital on FanDuel, lock in Rask for the much-needed points.
