Week 14 Tight End Rankings

Darren Waller (LV)
If you went against Waller last week, I’m sorry. His 45.0 PPR points were the most by a tight end since Shannon Sharpe posted 12/124/2 back in 2002. Oddly enough, Waller recorded the best tight end performance in 2019 as well, though his 31.6 PPR points in that game pale in comparison. Unfortunately, you shouldn’t expect much of an encore this week. The Colts have allowed the second-fewest fantasy points per game (8.6 PPR points) to tight ends, behind only the 49ers. Not only have they allowed the third-fewest yards to them, but they’ve also allowed just one receiving touchdown on 83 targets. When you look at it on a per-target basis, the Colts have allowed opposing tight ends 0.62 fewer fantasy points per opportunity than they average in non-Colts games. That makes this the worst schedule-adjusted matchup in the NFL from an efficiency standpoint. Heck, even when you don’t factor in the competition, they’ve allowed just 1.17 PPR points per target. When the Colts do allow a reception, it goes for an average of just 8.65 yards, which is another league-low. You’re playing Waller every week in season-long, but don’t get aggressive with him in DFS this week, particularly in cash games.

Eric Ebron (PIT)
He’s one of the guys Mike Tomlin was talking about when he said, “start catching the ball or we’ll put someone in who will.” Ebron dropped another two balls in Week 13, bringing his season total to six, which is tied with Evan Engram for the league-lead among tight ends. This is likely just a warning to Ebron, as the Steelers really don’t have anybody else at tight end who presents a threat, unlike the wide receivers. For fantasy purposes, Ebron’s been great, totaling 11-plus PPR points in six of his last seven games. It sure helps that he’s seen a massive 54 targets over those seven games, but it’s all relative. There have been just six teams who’ve allowed 15-plus PPR points per game to tight ends, and the Bills are one of them. They’re allowing a sky-high 73.7 percent catch-rate, 8.11 yards per target, and a touchdown every 14.1 targets. That all amounts to 1.97 PPR points per target, which is the eighth-highest number in football. It gets even better when you factor in their opponents, as tight ends have scored 20.2 percent more PPR points against the Bills than they have in their other matchups, making this the third-best schedule adjusted matchup for the position. You should have him in lineups as a TE1 right now.

Logan Thomas (WAS)
Washington has found something with Logan Thomas. Thomas has been in the NFL since 2014 and he’s been on three other teams, but it’s all finally clicked here in Washington. He’s being heavily targeted with Alex Smith at QB and he’s now moved into the weekly must-start conversation. The 49ers are the second-toughest matchup for opposing TEs, but Thomas is seeing too much work to be scared off of starting him. Fire him up as a low-end TE1 with upside.
