Sam Burns earned his first PGA Tour victory (-17) during last week’s Valspar Championship at Innisbrook Resort, finishing three-under-par on Sunday to become the second-youngest winner in the tournament’s history at 24 years old. The PGA Tour moves north to start the month of May, heading to the Wells Fargo Championship at Quail Hollow Golf and Country Club in Charlotte, North Carolina. Keep in mind that Sam Burns had 70-1 odds to win at Valspar prior to the start of the tournament, so don’t dismiss golfers that have lower odds and a lower salary in DFS, as these players can often turn out to provide immense value when constructing your lineups.

Course Preview
The Quail Hollow course is one of the most scenic tournaments on the Tour, featuring groves of cedar and oak trees lining its narrow fairways. Golf course architect George Cobb designed the course in 1961 to capture the beauty and difficulty of playing a course that embraces its local landscape. Three rounds of construction have been carried out since its opening 60 years ago, including as recent as 2016. Quail Hollow’s back-nine challenges golfers on Hole 14 and Hole 17, as they present unique challenges via a doglegged fairway and water hazards with menacingly steep and narrow greens.
Golfers with the ability to maintain big, accurate drives on the narrow fairways will often be given birdie and par opportunities. Another notable statistic to follow when constructing your lineups is a player’s percentage of strokes gained off-the-tee. Finding golfers who rank highly in both categories instantly launches them into consideration as additions to your lineups at the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship.

Will Zalatoris ($9,400)
The 24-year old became a household name during his second-place finish at The Masters (-9) while failing to carry that momentum into RBC Heritage, where he placed T42 (-5) on a much different course. One of Zalatoris’ strengths is his strokes gained off-the-tee, as he ranks 55th at .254%, which is a good statistic to hone in on at Quail Hollow. Zalatoris possesses a top-20 rank in driving distance, averaging 307.6 yards on 116 drives in the 2021 PGA Tour season. Despite lacking strong driving accuracy, he is often able to recover and hit the greens in regulation, ranking 18th amongst all golfers on Tour with an impressive 69.44 GIR% across 16 events. Plug him into your lineups with confidence, as he has numerous skillsets that will produce huge production via birdies, as seen in his 69.967 scoring average that ranks in the top ten.
Jason Day ($8,600)
Day took home the purse amidst a first-place finish back in 2018 at the Wells Fargo Championship and remains a great value addition to lineups three years later. The 33-year old Australian has impressive strokes gained off-the-tee percentage (.452%) but struggles with his short game, which is a contributing factor for why he has a discounted salary. Day has two top-10 finishes and four within the top-25, only missing the cut five times out of the 15 events he’s played during the 2021 PGA Tour season. His strong play off-the-tee and the limited number of Par 5s at Quail Hollow will allow Day to compete down the stretch on Sunday while generating high-end production at a course he is very familiar with.
Joaquin Niemann ($9,100)
The 22-year old Chilean golfer is one of the biggest trending young stars on Tour right now, along with 24-year old American Will Zalatoris. Niemann earned a top-ten finish at Valspar Championship last weekend (T8/-9) and has done so three other times across 15 events played during the 2021 PGA Tour season. Niemann has yet to miss a cut, which means he is an extremely safe player to roster with excellent statistics in all strokes gained categories, edging out most of the competition with extremely efficient play in all areas of a course. Niemann averages 4.48 birdies per round, which is the most valuable point category to chase when constructing lineups. Vegas also thinks fondly of the upcoming talent, as he has 33-1 odds to win the 2021 Wells Fargo Championship. Ride the hot hand and plug Niemann into your lineups ahead of Thursday morning tee-times.
Cameron Tringale ($8,400)
The 33-year old Californian is another golfer who prospered at the Valspar Championship, finishing T3 (-13) thanks to steady strokes gained percentages from tee-to-green (.846%) and putting (.477%), which both rank within the top-40 of all golfers on the PGA Tour. Tringale boasts a 68.06 GIR%, meaning he is often able to reach the green with one or two strokes to achieve par. Averaging 4.25 birdies per round, Tringale has a lot of similar skillsets when compared to Joaquin Niemann, making it difficult to find a flaw in his game. At a reduced salary that could be attributed to just a 61.42 DAP%, he will need to be careful navigating the tree-lined, dog-legged fairways at Quail Hollow, particularly in the back-nine. Tringale makes for a fine play in DFS lineups, as he rarely misses the cut and has logged eight top-25 finishes through 17 events during the 2021 PGA Tour.
