Career Contextualization

Mitch Trubisky is getting a chance to revive his career. After a failed four-year stint in Chicago, the No. 2 overall pick in the 2017 draft took a year to reset his career with the Buffalo Bills. Trubisky primarily held the clipboard in Buffalo, where he served as Josh Allen‘s backup.

Trubisky signed a two-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers this offseason. Unless Pittsburgh spends the 20th overall pick on a quarterback, Trubisky will enter training camp as the team’s starting quarterback.

Trubisky’s biggest problem in Chicago was his ability to read the field from within the pocket. He was nicknamed “One-Read Mitch” for that very reason. But, of course, it didn’t help that coach Matt Nagy tried to fit a square peg in a round hole. Rather than working with Trubisky’s greatest strength, his mobility, Nagy ran an offense predicated on making correct reads from the pocket.
