Just like that, the 2022 fantasy football season is already halfway over. Heading into Week 9, you should be well aware if your dynasty teams are contenders or if it’s time to look into the 2023 rookie class.
If you’re at or near the top of the standings, you should be buying a few players to help you make a championship run. On the flip side, if you’re towards the bottom you should be looking to gain some youth or future draft picks. Be realistic with yourself and if you are definitely going to make a playoff run, buy into some of these players. If you’re not even certain you’re going to make the playoffs, don’t bother paying up for these players. In your case, you might be better off working towards a better draft pick, which is always better than finishing in the middle of the pack in dynasty leagues.

Buy – Kareem Hunt (RB – CLE)
FantasyPros Dynasty Ranking: RB32
Nick Chubb has become an absolute touchdown machine for the Cleveland Browns, leaving Kareem Hunt a bit in the dust this year. Usually, we see Hunt getting a heavy dosage of passing game work, but this year that really hasn’t been the case. He’s averaging 5.8 YPC this year, which is the lowest he’s ever been at in his six years in the NFL. Additionally, he’s caught just 15 passes all year, which is 28th for all running backs.
The biggest factor for Hunt and him being someone to buy is that he’s expected to be traded. During training camp, Hunt was denied his trade request and maybe that’s part of the reason why he hasn’t been as involved this year. The writing is on the wall for Hunt’s time in Cleveland and whether a trade happens or not, he’s someone worth buying into for the future. He’s 27 years old and won’t be a workhorse, but his upside in the passing game and history of success makes him appealing regardless of where he ends up playing in the future. If he lands with the Eagles or the Rams his value will skyrocket, so buy him now if you still can.
Buy – Garrett Wilson (WR – NYJ)
FantasyPros Dynasty Ranking: WR17
Next up is the rookie wide receiver for the Jets from Ohio State, Garrett Wilson. The Jets have shown some real potential this year, but there is still plenty of uncertainty around Zach Wilson. Elijah Moore entered the season looking like the future WR1 for this team, but with his recent string of bizarre comments and issues about not getting the ball enough, I’m buying Wilson.
Wilson is arguably the best rookie wide receiver in this 2022 draft class and was my rookie WR1 during the pre-draft process. He’s not going to be cheap by any means, but he’s clearly going to be the future alpha wide receiver on this Jets offense. Whether the Jets honor Moore’s request to be traded remains to be seen, but if he does stick around, he’s not going to be involved much with the comments he’s making. Meanwhile, Wilson just caught 6-of-7 targets against the Patriots in Week 8 for a career-high 115 yards.
Buy – Zamir White (RB – LV)
FantasyPros Dynasty Ranking: RB48
Here’s a name that goes a bit deeper than some of the aforementioned names, the rookie running back for the Raiders, Zamir White. Josh Jacobs is on fire this year and continues to get the bulk of the work out of the Las Vegas backfield. Kenyan Drake was cut back in August, making the way for Jacobs to run away with this backfield. He’s currently on pace to finish with his third-straight season as a fantasy RB1.
Enough about Jacobs. One player to keep an eye on if you’re rebuilding or looking ahead to next year is White. After the Raiders declined his option during the off-season, his future was fairly uncertain. Now that he’s playing as well as he has been, he’ll likely be again looking for a big payday and long-term deal. The Raiders, however, may not be so quick to pay up for a running back as they have plenty of other issues of their own. White is a very well-rounded back with excellent vision. While he may not be getting any usage right now, he’s someone worth targeting for more of a long-term play.
Sell – Leonard Fournette (RB – TB)
FantasyPros Dynasty Ranking: RB21
The Buccaneers have been arguably the biggest disappointment this year, as their offense looks awful and Tom Brady continues to struggle. Byron Leftwich continues to feed Fournette the ball despite the run game being the worst in the NFL and one of the least-productive rushing attacks we’ve seen in years. All things considered, Fournette is currently the RB8 in PPR scoring and will likely continue to get enough volume this year to make him a solid low-end RB1. If you’re not winning now, you need to get out on Fournette while you can. Rookie Rachaad White is nipping at his heels and looks more explosive with the ball in his hands, and is just as good of a pass catcher, if not better.
