Frankie Montas (shoulder) to miss first month of season
Frankie Montas is expected to miss the first month of the 2023 season due to shoulder inflammation. He is 8-10 weeks behind in his off-season training.
Fantasy Impact
Montas dealt with injuries throughout the 2022 season and will have his shoulder issues carry over into 2023. He ended 2022 with a 4.05 ERA and 8.85 K/9 over 144.1 innings. Domingo German would be the most likely candidate to join the Yankees’ rotation while Motnas is out.

Trey Mancini signs two-year deal with Cubs
Trey Mancini has agreed to a two-year deal with the Chicago Cubs. The deal also includes an opt-out.
Fantasy Impact
The 30-year-old had a bit of a down season in 2022, especially after being traded to the Astros where he hit .176/.258/.364 in 51 games. He’ll look to bounce back in a near-everyday role with the Cubs, whether it be at 1B or DH.

Jorge Alfaro signs minor-league deal with Red Sox
Free agent catcher Jorge Alfaro and the Boston Red Sox have agreed to a minor-league deal.
Fantasy Impact
The veteran catcher spent the 2022 season with the San Diego Padres, slashing .246/.285/.383 with seven home runs across 274 trips to the plate. In parts of seven big league campaigns, Alfaro is a career .256 hitter with 47 home runs, 18 of which came as a career-high with the 2019 Marlins. The 29-year-old will presumably battle Reese McGuire and Connor Wong for reps behind the dish for the 2023 Red Sox.

Fantasy Impact
Shaw spent parts of eight seasons in the big leagues, suiting up for the Red Sox, Brewers, and Blue Jays during that time. A lifetime .237 hitter, Shaw hit for notable power early in his career, launching 63 home runs for the Brewers between the 2017 and 2018 seasons. He finishes his career with 114 long balls across 733 MLB games and 2,690 trips to the plate.
