News and Notes
Kenley Jansen left his last appearance after one hitter due to a right hamstring injury. The hope is Jansen can be fully healthy by Friday, but he remains day-to-day for the time being.
The Blue Jays are one of the bigger risers, with Jordan Romano returning from the injured list. He has tossed three scoreless appearances since his return. Adbert Alzolay is the other big riser, taking complete control of the closer role during the same span the Cubs have made a huge run toward both their division and the wildcard race.
The two big fallers here are Carlos Estevez and the Mariners’ closer situation turning into likely more of a committee. We saw Shohei Ohtani get diagnosed with a torn UCL and Mike Trout placed back on the injured list after one game Tuesday night. This all comes after the Angels were already struggling since the All-Star break.
Meanwhile, the Mariners bullpen has still been one of the stronger units in the MLB statistically since trading Paul Sewald, but we have seen some struggles recently from Andres Munoz in the closer role. Matt Brash could be in the mix for some save chances and potentially Justin Topa if his recent success continues.
