Jaxon Smith-Njigba (wrist) facing 3-to-4-week timeline

Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll said that rookie WR Jaxon Smith-Njigba has a “slight fracture” in his wrist, for which he will receive surgery, and is facing a timeline of 3-4 weeks, putting his status for Week 1 into question.

Fantasy Impact

Smith-Njigba was slated to start from Day 1 as the Seahawks’ WR3. His timeline for recovery is promising, as it means he shouldn’t miss too much time. The Seahawks’ season opener is on September 10 against the LA Rams, and it might be a tall task for him to be ready by then. Carroll has also developed a reputation as overly optimistic about his athletes’ return status. His current half-PPR ADP is WR36.

Jerome Ford: Browns hopeful for Week 1 return

The Cleveland Browns are hopeful that Jerome Ford (hamstring) will be available to play in Week 1’s matchup against the Cincinnati Bengals.

Fantasy Impact

A hamstring injury has left Ford sidelined for a good chunk of time, and he will continue to miss practice this week according to HC Kevin Stefanski. The team is hopeful that he will be well enough to return for their season opener, but it remains unclear if that’ll end up happening or not. Fantasy managers can look for Demetric Felton Jr. to get more work if Ford is unable to play for the Browns in Week 1.

Mike Gesicki returns to practice Tuesday

Mike Gesicki was able to return from his shoulder injury for New England’s practice on Tuesday.

Fantasy Impact

Gesicki suffered a mild shoulder dislocation in practice a week ago that has forced him to miss time, but he’s now back and participating in practice for the Patriots. He’s wearing a non-contact jersey, so he doesn’t appear to be at full health right now. This is a step in the right direction for the veteran tight end, and it seems like he’s trending towards being ready to play for Week 1 of the regular season.
