Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Targets (Week 16)

Fantasy Football Quarterback Streamers & Waiver Wire Targets (Week 16)

Week 15 of the 2023 NFL season is in the books. Hopefully, your team pulled out the victory. However, the only easy win was last week’s win. So, let’s look at the top streaming quarterback options for Week 16.

All the quarterbacks in this article are rostered in under 50% of ESPN 1QB leagues and fewer than 25% in superflex leagues.

Streaming Targets in 1QB Leagues

Baker Mayfield (TB) vs. Jacksonville Jaguars (49.1% Rostered)

Mayfield is barely less than 50% rostered, and rightfully so. He is the clear-cut top waiver wire add for fantasy players streaming the quarterback position. Last week, the former No. 1 overall pick destroyed the Green Bay Packers, completing 78.6% of his pass attempts for 381 yards, four touchdowns and 29 fantasy points – all season-highs. Mayfield has scored 20.1 or more fantasy points in back-to-back games. Furthermore, he has thrown at least two touchdown passes in 57.1% of the games this season, including six of the past eight contests.

The veteran quarterback has an outstanding matchup in the second round of the fantasy football playoffs. Jacksonville has had one of the worst pass defenses in the NFL. They have surrendered 19.2 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. Furthermore, opposing quarterbacks have averaged 1.8 passing touchdowns and 24.1 fantasy points per game against the Jaguars over the past month, totaling 18.5 or more in every contest. Tampa Bay’s defense will struggle with Jacksonville’s offense, leading to Mayfield throwing all over the field.

Jake Browning (CIN) vs. Pittsburgh Steelers (36.7% Rostered)

While many said the Bengals’ season was over after losing Joe Burrow, Browning has kept the team in the playoff race. More importantly, he has been an outstanding streaming option for fantasy players. Browning has averaged 1.5 passing touchdowns and 20.2 fantasy points per game in his four career starts, totaling 19 or more in three straight. The former Washington star has taken advantage of his athleticism, averaging 15.6 rushing yards and four fantasy points per game with his legs over the past five weeks.

Last week, many discredited Browning because of the matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Thankfully, his matchup in Week 16 is far more fantasy-friendly. The Steelers have been one of the worst teams to stream quarterbacks against this season. However, they have severely struggled to slow down quarterbacks lately. Last week, Gardner Minshew had three passing touchdowns despite losing Michael Pittman Jr. early in the game with a concussion. Furthermore, Pittsburgh has surrendered 20 or more fantasy points to quarterbacks in back-to-back contests. Browning should make it three straight on Saturday.

Streaming Targets in Superflex Leagues

Gardner Minshew (IND) vs. Atlanta Falcons (15.5% Rostered)

Minshew Magic does it again! The veteran quarterback has been an appealing streaming option since becoming the full-time starter in Week 6. However, he has been even better since the team’s bye week. Over the past four contests, Minshew has averaged 254.5 passing yards, 1.5 touchdowns and 17 fantasy points per game. He’s scored 14 or more in every matchup. This past week, the veteran had three passing touchdowns despite losing Michael Pittman Jr. early in the contest to a concussion. Hopefully, the star receiver can play in Week 16.

Atlanta held Bryce Young to only 7.6 fantasy points this past week. However, the rookie quarterback hadn’t scored more than 9.2 fantasy points in six consecutive games before the matchup against the Falcons. Yet, Atlanta didn’t force a turnover and allowed Young to complete 75% of his pass attempts. Meanwhile, they had surrendered 20 or more fantasy points to quarterbacks in four of their previous six games. Furthermore, the Falcons have surrendered 18.8 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over their past six home contests. Minshew has top-10 upside if Pittman can play.

Joe Flacco (CLE) vs. Houston Texans (11.1% Rostered)

You can sum up the 2023 NFL season by looking at the current starting quarterbacks. Flacco started the year on his couch, joined the practice squad a few weeks ago, and now is a legitimate streaming option in the second round of the fantasy football playoffs. The veteran quarterback has averaged 313 passing yards, 2.3 touchdowns, and 17.8 fantasy points per game, totaling 16.2 or more in every contest. This past week, he had 374 passing yards and 16.9 fantasy points against an impressive Chicago Bears defense.

Furthermore, Flacco would have had more than 20 fantasy points for the second consecutive game if not for three interceptions. Meanwhile, he has an appealing fantasy matchup in Week 16. The Texans have been one of the worst teams at slowing down quarterbacks this year, surrendering 17.6 fantasy points per game. They have given up 19.2 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks over the past seven weeks, allowing 19 or more in 71.4% of those contests. Flacco should have a solid performance in this critical matchup between two possible playoff teams.

Streamer to Avoid

Aidan O’Connell (LV) vs. Kansas City Chiefs (2.1% Rostered)

Typically, streaming articles tell you which players to target off the waiver wire. However, I will give one quarterback each week that you should avoid.

No one saw O’Connell’s fantasy performance coming this past week. The rookie quarterback had four passing touchdowns and 25.9 fantasy points in the blowout win over the Los Angeles Chargers. By comparison, he had four passing touchdowns this year and 28.1 fantasy points over the previous three games before last week’s matchup. The Chargers’ season is over, so they gave up and made life easy for O’Connell and the Raiders offense in Week 15. Unfortunately, the Chiefs have no intentions of rolling over and playing dead.

Hopefully, fantasy players took my advice and didn’t stream Bailey Zappe off the waiver wire after his three-passing touchdown performance against the Pittsburgh Steelers. The second-year quarterback struggled against Kansas City, totaling one passing touchdown and 9.4 fantasy points in the loss. Fantasy players should expect a similar disappointing performance from O’Connell after having the best performance in his career. The Chiefs have held quarterbacks to only 14.8 fantasy points per game in 2023. Please, don’t chase points and leave the rookie quarterback on the waiver wire.
