Top 7 Fantasy Baseball FAAB Waiver Wire Pickups: High-Stakes Leagues (Week 6)

Top 7 Fantasy Baseball FAAB Waiver Wire Pickups: High-Stakes Leagues (Week 6)

The best players in the world play on NFBC and the most popular high-stakes contest is the NFBC Main Event, which has a $1,750 buy-in with a $7,000 league prize and a $200,000 overall prize. Thankfully, for everyone, NFBC allows us to see what each team is doing with their FAAB pick-ups on Sunday night.

Each week, I look at the most popular FAAB pick-ups in the NFBC Main Event to see who the best players in the world are picking up and whether we should add them in our leagues.

Week 6 High-Stakes FAAB League (2024 Fantasy Baseball)

Simeon Woods Richardson (SP, RP – MIN)

Simeon Woods Richardson is a former top pitching prospect who has pitched very well in his first two starts. He was picked up in 54 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $85 and a minimum bid of $8. Woods Richardson has a nice matchup this week versus a bad White Sox offense and lines up for a two-start week versus the Mariners and Blue Jays. He has struggled with control in the past but has looked much better this year.

Pete Crow-Armstrong (OF – CHC)

Pete Crow-Armstrong was picked up in 53 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $355 and a minimum bid of $1. Crow-Armstrong is a top prospect, replacing Cody Bellinger on the Cubs roster with Bellinger on the injured list (IL) with broken ribs. He is a premium defender with speed but has struggled with contact and strikeouts. I don’t know if he will get a ton of playing time and I worry he will end up a bench bat.

Bryce Elder (SP – ATL)

Bryce Elder was picked up in 49 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $140 and a minimum bid of $1. Elder is a pitcher that invites contact and is a bit dangerous. He can use that to get out of innings quickly, but it also opens him up to bad luck and blowups. He pitches for the Braves, which is a great opportunity for wins. He faces the Dodgers this week and there is a ton of risk in every start.

Jo Adell (OF – LAA)

Jo Adell was picked up in 46 leagues with a max bid of $171 and a minimum bid of $33. I have loved Adell for a long time because of the flashy tools. He has a ton of power and speed but can struggle with contact quite a bit. That hasn’t changed despite a fast start. He is still making well below-average zone contact and swinging and missing too much. You may want to ride his hot streak but if he doesn’t improve the contact he will go cold.

Bailey Falter (SP – PIT)

Bailey Falter was picked up in 44 leagues with a max bid of $100 and a minimum bid of $16. Falter is not a particularly good pitcher, but he has an amazing two-start week versus the A’s and the Rockies away from Coors Field. You won’t want to hold onto him for long, but this is the perfect streaming opportunity.

Mike Tauchman (OF – CHC)

Mike Tauchman was picked up in 44 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $64 and a minimum bid of $5. Tachman is the big beneficiary of Bellinger’s injury in Chicago. He will work on the short-side platoon, but he has power and speed, and the Cubs often like him as a lead-off hitter. While Crow-Armstrong is the flashy guy, Tauchman is the more productive player.

Josh Rojas (2B, 3B – SEA)

Josh Rojas was picked up in 42 Main Event leagues with a max bid of $201 and a minimum bid of $2. Rojas has been really good, hitting .297/.366/.516 with three home runs and a stolen base. The underlying skills seem to back this up and he is playing every day. This may finally be the breakout we have been waiting for.
