NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Advice (Week 15)

(Rostership percentages courtesy of ESPN)

Matthew Knies (F – TOR) | 42.6% Rostered

Toronto’s Matthew Knies (16 goals, 11 assists) is on a scoring spree right now, amassing eight points (five goals, three assists) in his last five games. This all started with a five-point (three goals, two assists) performance against the Bruins back on January 4th.

The 22-year-old winger is up on the Leafs’ top line, playing alongside Auston Matthews. Now that the superstar centerman is healthy for the back half of the season, Knies should continue to rack up the points down the stretch.

Viktor Arvidsson (F – EDM) | 28.5% Rostered

In a similar line of thinking above with the Knies-Matthews duo, anytime I can get Leon Draisaitl-adjacent allows me to stockpile fantasy points. Viktor Arvidsson is currently occupying the right-wing spot alongside Draisaitl, and that’s enough for me to take a flier on the Swedish forward.

Arvidsson (five goals, eight assists in 27 games) has been playing well lately, scoring eight points (three goals, five assists) in his last nine games. Over the nine-game sample size, he’s also accumulated 27 shots on goal (SOG) — three shots on goal per game (SOG/G). As long as Arvidsson continues to play on Edmonton’s second line with Draisaitl, he’s worth rostering in fantasy.

Adam Fantilli (F – CBJ) | 14.7% Rostered

Columbus has battled through injury issues all season, and their latest man to go down is centerman Sean Monahan (upper body). This means Adam Fantilli, last year’s third-overall draft pick, will be driving the first line moving forward. I think this is a great opportunity to add the 20-year-old, who has 10 goals and 11 assists in 43 games this season.

Fantilli’s 85 SOG are the fifth-most on the team. He has a couple of budding 24-year-old Russians on his wings in Kirill Marchenko and Dmitri Voronkov (42.8% rostered), the latter of which I think could also be worth picking up, so this should be a fun line to watch on a nightly basis.

Jackson LaCombe (D – ANA) | 24.5% Rostered

Let’s round things out with Anaheim’s Jackson LaCombe, who has been making his case for why he should be the Ducks’ best offense-first defenseman. LaCombe is now averaging 20:03 time on ice per game (TOI/G), and he’s certainly taking advantage of his ice time. The defenseman has logged seven points (two goals, five assists) in his last nine games, adding 25 SOG (2.8 SOG/G) during the stretch.

This brings the 24-year-old to 18 total points in 35 games this year, which has come courtesy of eight goals and 10 helpers. Finally, LaCombe is also averaging 1.6 blocked shots per game (75th), so if your league rewards shot-blocking, LaCombe will have chances to add fantasy points that way as well.
