Josh Hader refining mechanics to avoid tipping pitches
Josh Hader worked this offseason to simplify his pre-windup movements in an effort to prevent tipping pitches, per Brian McTaggart of MLB.com. The left-hander also continues to work on incorporating his changeup more effectively, though he has attempted this adjustment in the past without fully committing to it.
Fantasy Impact
Hader remains one of the top closers in fantasy baseball after recording 34 saves with a 3.80 ERA, 0.96 WHIP, and 105 strikeouts over 71 innings in 2024. If he successfully refines his mechanics and adds a viable third pitch, he could further solidify himself as an elite late-inning option. Regardless, his strikeout upside and role in Houston’s bullpen make him a top-tier fantasy closer heading into 2025.

Mookie Betts to continue hitting second in lineup
Dodgers manager Dave Roberts confirmed that Mookie Betts will continue to hit second in the lineup this season.
Fantasy Impact
The Dodgers will run back the same top-three with Shohei Ohtani leading off and Freddie Freeman batting third. They should remain one of the most dangerous lineups in the MLB this season.

Cubs finalize one-year, $6 million deal with Justin Turner
The Cubs officially signed Justin Turner to a one-year, $6 million contract, solidifying his role as a veteran presence in Chicago’s lineup. Turner is expected to start at first base or designated hitter against left-handed pitchers and could also spell rookie Matt Shaw at third base as he adjusts to his first full MLB season. To make room on the roster, Alexander Canario was designated for assignment.
Fantasy Impact
Turner’s playing time will likely be limited to a platoon role, which keeps his fantasy value low outside of deep leagues. However, if injuries open up more opportunities, his ability to provide steady production could make him a useful waiver-wire pickup in-season. For now, he remains off the radar in most standard formats.
