Friday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings
Logan Gilbert (SEA) vs. MIA
Logan Gilbert is a stud at home and is pitching well this year. Per FanGraphs, in 214 innings at home since 2023, Gilbert has had a 3.15 ERA, 3.09 xFIP, 0.89 WHIP, 4.2 BB% and 28.9 K%. Furthermore, this year, he has had the following statistics in five starts spanning 27.1 innings.
- 2.63 ERA
- 2.48 xERA
- 1.63 xFIP
- 1.92 SIERA
- 0.88 WHIP
- One win
- One quality start
- 5.6 BB%
- 38.0 K%
- 50.0 GB%
- 18.1 SwStr%
- 33.0 CSW%
- 97 stuff+
- 118 location+
- 115 pitching+
The righty has a tantalizing combo of matchup and betting info. The Marlins are 24th in wRC+ (93) with a 25.0 K% versus righties and tied for 12th in wRC+ (91) with a 27.0 K% on the road. Additionally, the Mariners are -250, and the game’s total is 7.5 runs.
Matthew Liberatore (STL) vs. MIL
The Matthew Liberatore breakout is brilliant. He’s cooking with gas this year. In four starts spanning 25 innings in 2025, he has the following stats.
- 3.60 ERA
- 3.06 xERA
- 2.78 xFIP
- 2.98 SIERA
- 1.00 WHIP
- One win
- Three quality starts
- 2.0 BB%
- 24.5 K%
- 11.5 SwStr%
- 28.2 CSW%
- 103 stuff+
- 103 location+
- 105 pitching+
Liberatore’s ERA estimators and underlying data entirely support his breakout. It’s the real deal. The lefty should keep cruising in a plus matchup.
The Brewers are tied for 20th in wRC+ (80) with a 22.3 K% versus lefties and eighth in wRC+ (100) with a 20.9 K% on the road in 2025. Thus, the Cardinals are -130, and the game’s total is 8.0 runs. His salary is a steal relative to his numbers this season.
Pablo Lopez (MIN) vs. LAA
Pablo Lopez is a riskier pick than usual since he’s returning from the injured list (IL). Still, in a Triple-A start on April 19, he allowed one run on three hits, zero walks and four strikeouts in 4.2 innings on 63 pitches. He should be good to cut it loose for a full or nearly full workload tonight.
In three starts spanning 16.2 innings this season, he has a 1.62 ERA, 3.15 xERA, 3.25 xFIP, 3.32 SIERA, 1.02 WHIP, 3.0 BB%, 20.9 K%, one win and one quality start. Lopez also has a 11.0 SwStr%, 27.0 CSW%, 95 stuff+, 117 location+ and 111 pitching+. Therefore, his plate discipline and pitch-modeling support his stellar numbers.
Lopez has a high ceiling tonight because of his matchup. The Angels are 22nd in wRC+ (97) with a 26.0 K% versus righties and 17th in wRC+ (87) with a 24.9 K% on the road this season. Finally, the Twins are -250, and the game’s total is 8.0 runs. Lopez would typically be an appealing SP2 in cash games, but Liberatore got the nod because his salary is absurdly low. Still, Lopez’s ceiling is likely higher, enhancing the appeal of using him in GPPs.

Suggested Lineup Stacks
I swear I’m not just being lazy by featuring the Athletics in this space again. Sutter Health Field has the second-highest park factor for runs and the fifth-highest for homers (129) this year, and Sean Burke has predictably crashed to Earth this year after overachieving in a small sample for the White Sox last season. His 8.86 xERA is the highest among tonight’s probable starters. The A’s should light up the scoreboard.
Kyle Hendricks is a back-of-the-rotation punching bag. In four starts spanning 20 innings this season, he has a 4.50 ERA, 3.82 xERA, 5.15 xFIP and 5.34 SIERA. His xERA is the outlier. Since last season, Hendricks has ceded a .362 wOBA to lefties and a .309 wOBA to righties. The Twins should hammer him tonight.
Core Studs
- Since 2023, Brent Rooker has had a .338 OBP, .249 ISO and 141 wRC+ versus righties.
- In 107 plate appearances this year, Tyler Soderstrom has a .355 OBP, .323 ISO and 182 wRC+.
- Lawrence Butler has had a .314 OBP, .206 ISO and 121 wRC+ versus righties since 2023.
Value Plays/Punts
- Rookie Luke Keaschall has five stolen bases, a .520 OBP, .158 ISO and 214 wRC+ in 25 plate appearances this season.
- Since 2023, Trevor Larnach has had a .341 OBP, .186 ISO and 120 wRC+ versus righties.
- Josh Smith has two homers, three stolen bases, a .429 OBP, .185 ISO and 177 wRC+ in 63 plate appearances in a breakout campaign.

Check out our best picks on the MLB Underdog Cheat Sheet
Kyle Hendricks: 15.5 Outs Recorded – Lower (Sleeper) (1.56x)
Kyle Hendricks: 15.5 Outs Recorded – Lower (Underdog) (0.86x)
I featured the Twins as a suggested stack because I expect them to pummel Hendricks. The veteran righty’s 4.50 ERA is underwhelming but better than two of his ERA estimators. Even while having some fortunate luck, Hendricks has cleared 15.5 outs recorded in only his first start of the year, falling short of that threshold in three straight. If Hendricks pitches closer to his ERA estimators, he’s unlikely to end his skid of recording fewer than 15.5 outs.
Matthew Liberatore: 4.5 Strikeouts – Higher (Sleeper) (1.79x)
Matthew Liberatore: 4.5 Strikeouts – Higher (Underdog) (1.05x)
Liberatore is putting together a breakout campaign. In four starts spanning 25 innings this year, the lefty has 24 strikeouts, 8.64 K/9 and a 24.5 K%. Since striking out a season-low four batters in his first start, Liberatore has piled up seven, seven and six strikeouts. We project him to have 5.33 strikeouts tonight.
Brent Rooker: 1.5 Total Bases – Higher (Sleeper) (1.89x)
Brent Rooker: 1.5 Total Bases – Higher (Underdog) (1.06x)
Rooker is a powerhouse in same-handed matchups. In 913 plate appearances against righties since 2023, Rooker has had 214 hits (122 singles, 35 doubles, three triples and 54 homers), a .263 batting average, .512 slugging and .249 ISO. Meanwhile, the 81 righties who’ve faced Burke since last season have had 21 hits (10 singles, seven doubles, zero triples and four homers), a .269 batting average and .513 slugging. Rooker should muscle up for more than 1.5 total bases tonight.
