Football season is almost upon us! Rookies report to training camp this week and next week (depending on the team), and there will be preseason games to watch before you know it. It’s a lot of fun to debate over the best players – would you rather have Justin Jefferson or Jahmyr Gibbs at 4th overall? Is Ashton Jeanty really worth a first-round pick in redraft? Is this the year Derrick Henry finally falls off? Those are all good players, and we expect them to be – you don’t find fantasy football league-winners in the first round. You find the foundation of your team, and avoid league-losers. Leagues are won in the late rounds; by the 12th-round pick that ends up being your every week flex play; by the top-5 TE you paid essentially nothing for. But how do you identify those guys? How do you find fantasy football sleepers?
That’s where our sleeper pick accuracy contest, and the resulting Sleeper Rankings, come in. In addition to traditional draft rankings, fantasy football experts can opt-in to the sleeper competition. The rules are simple: experts pick a few players per position from the lower ranks, and we analyse who identified the most genuine fantasy assets. “Lower ranks” is defined is defined by a different positional rank cutoff for each position. Those cutoffs, and the number of players we ask each expert to pick, are:
- 2 Quarterbacks outside the top 15
- 4 Running Backs outside the top 45
- 4 Wide Receivers outside the top 55
- 2 Tight Ends outside the top 15
- 1 Team Defense outside the top 10
Experts are scored on the full-season half-PPR performance of the players they picked, with bonus points for ranking them higher within the position. For all the details, check out our Sleeper Accuracy FAQ.

Congratulations to our winner, Justin Frye from Pro Football Network! Frye cleared the field in our underlying metric, and he did that by being one of the few experts to hit on 3 different running backs while being the #1 expert for wide receivers, and one of only 5 experts (out of 64) to find the best eligible tight end sleeper – Tucker Kraft.
The silver medal* goes to Tom Strachan from The Fantasy Sanctuary! Like Frye, Strachan achieved this by having multiple good picks at both RB and WR, and being one of the few to earn notable points at TE. Third place goes to Jacob Dunne from Fantrax! In addition to strong showings at RB and WR, Dunne was the only expert in the overall top 10 to earn points for their team defense pick: Dunne picked the Seahawks, who ECR had ranked at a totally-undraftable 23rd among defenses, and would go on to be the #5 fantasy defense in 2024.
