Devy Fantasy Primer: College Football Week 5 (2025)

Saturday night in Happy Valley sets the college football stage with a top-10 clash as No. 6 Oregon travels to face No. 3 Penn State under the iconic whiteout lights. Both teams enter the contest unscathed, having dominated lesser competition, but this matchup serves as their first true litmus test of the season.

Offensively, Oregon brings explosive firepower and one of the nation’s most balanced attacks, while Penn State counters with a stifling defense that has allowed just over five points per game so far. Last season’s conference championship shootout between these two programs elevated this year’s rematch to must-watch territory, promising another chapter of high stakes, potential playoff implications and game-changing stars on both sidelines.

Game of The Week

(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)

#6 Oregon @ #3 Penn State (-3.5) | O/U 52.5 | Saturday at 7:30 p.m. ET on NBC/Peacock

On a week with multiple matchups featuring two ranked teams, this one in Happy Valley stands out the most. A top-10 showdown in the Big Ten with the whiteout in effect, what could be better? Both teams have cruised to this point, playing much inferior opponents, making this the first time either team will be tested.

We get a great matchup between 2026 eligible quarterbacks with Dante Moore versus Drew Allar. They have combined for a total of two interceptions and only four sacks taken on the season, demonstrating their ability to protect the ball. At the wide receiver position, it will be Syracuse transfer Trebor Pena leading the way for Penn State, while former No. 1 wide receiver recruit from the 2025 class, Oregon’s Dekorien Moore, seems to improve each week.

The running back position leans heavily towards Penn State with studs Nicholas Singleton and Kaytron Allen. Oregon’s backfield has been dealing with a nagging injury to Noah Whittington, forcing junior Jayden Limar into his first significant career action.

Some interesting trends for this game… Oregon has allowed teams to score on 100% of their red-zone trips. Penn State has scored on 94% of its offensive red-zone trips. Oregon’s offense has also scored on 100% of its red-zone trips, while Penn State’s defense has only allowed 50% of red-zone trips to be converted into points.

My Picks:

  • Moneyline: Penn State (-166)
  • Spread: Oregon +3.5 (-110)
  • Total: Over 52.5 (-105)

Devy Spotlight

Cam Coleman (WR – Auburn) | 2027

We all know about 2027 wide receivers Jeremiah Smith and Ryan Williams, but what about Cam Coleman? He is firmly my WR3 in the 2027 class at this moment. Held to only one catch for 23 yards in Week 1, he has since put up over 200 yards and two touchdowns. Auburn takes on Texas A&M this Saturday. Coleman put on a show against them last season with seven receptions for 128 yards and two touchdowns.

Heisman Trophy Race

The top five Heisman favorites after Week 4:

  1. Fernando Mendoza (QB – Indiana) | +800
  2. John Mateer (QB – Oklahoma) | +900
  3. Dante Moore (QB – Oregon) | +1200
  4. Jeremiah Smith (WR – Ohio State) | +1200
  5. Carson Beck (QB – Miami) | +1300

I talked last week about John Mateer being able to claim the top spot with a big win against Auburn; instead, it’s Fernando Mendoza who makes the jump from outside the top five to the betting favorite. Dante Moore only slightly improved his odds but went from fifth to third.

Jeremiah Smith remains at +1200 and in the fourth slot. Carson Beck drops from the favorite at +750 to fifth at +1300 after a mediocre performance in a win at home versus Florida. LSU quarterback Garrett Nussmeier travels to Oxford to take on top-15 top-15-ranked Ole Miss. Much like Mateer and Mendoza last week, we could see a big jump for Nussmeier with a win and decent performance.
