DraftBattle: Week 3 Targets
Quinshon Judkins (RB – CLE)
Judkins looked excellent in Week 2 despite limited action. He played just 19 snaps but took 10 carries for 61 rushing yards and hauled in three receptions for 10 yards. All in all, he received 13 touches on the 19 snaps, accounting for 48 percent of the team’s rushing attempts. Quinshon managed 2.24 rushing yards over expectation per attempt on the afternoon and has been named the starter going forward. His debut was electric, even if he did not find the end zone, and it looks like the Browns have themselves quite the complementary tandem in Judkins and fellow rookie Dylan Sampson. Judkins being able to find success against a strong Baltimore Ravens defensive front bodes well for his projection this week against another tough front in the Green Bay Packers. Based on his usage last week, we should expect 15 touches minimum, with the opportunity to see 25+. Add Quinshon to your DraftBattle team wherever possible. He has the opportunity for success in a matchup others may shy away from, and with the best ball format, he stays on benches if he doesn’t find any running room.
Javonte Williams (RB – DAL)
Javonte Williams is back. Javonte looks like he has finally regained something resembling his pre-injury form, and the Dallas Cowboys are the beneficiary of taking the swing on the talented former second round pick. Javonte is averaging 4.57 yards per carry on the season and has totaled 151 rushing yards and three touchdowns. He is currently 16th in explosive run rate and eighth in yards after contact per attempt. Javonte has what looks like an easy matchup against the Chicago Bears and could finally be the beneficiary of an extended positive gamescript. Be prepared to be aggressive for Javonte at DraftBattle, as other managers may be targeting him at the very least as a matchup-based play.
Elic Ayomanor (WR – TEN)
Elic Ayomanor has just six receptions for 69 yards and a score through two games. So why has he made this list? Some of the underlying metrics suggest that Elic is ready for a breakout, and that it may just come this week. And in best ball, he is a very worthy late round dart. Elic surprisingly leads all rookies with a 23% target share and is also leading the way with a 40 percent air yard share. He has a strong 13 targets in two games and should at least maintain that average this week against the Indianapolis Colts. Elic should have gamescipt on his side against a surprising Colts squad, and his rapport with quarterback Cam Ward only continues to grow. Ayomanor is worth a late round stab at DraftBattle, where possible.
Rome Odunze (WR – CHI)
Rome Odunze looked incredible in Week 2, manning the Amon-Ra St. Brown role in Ben Johnson’s offense to the tune of seven receptions, 128 receiving yards, and two touchdowns on 11 targets. He now has three receiving touchdowns on the season after his six reception, 37 receiving yard, and one score opener, and is up to 20 targets in two games. Teams are going to start treating Rome as the number one receiver, but he moves in and out of the slot enough (33 percent slot rate) that he is still going to find substantial success this season. Looking ahead to this weekend, Odunze has a tasty matchup against a soft Dallas Cowboys defense that has been struggling in pass coverage. The Cowboys have gifted the fourth most fantasy points to the wide receiver position through two weeks of the season, and with Trevon Diggs still far from his pre-injury form, they have no one who can contend with the Bears’ receivers or tight ends. Be prepared to be aggressive to land him after his breakout performance last week, but he should be a high-priority target for Week 3 at DraftBattle.
