TL;DR Fantasy Football Week 8

Week 8 Byes: Detroit Lions, Las Vegas Raiders, Arizona Cardinals, Seattle Seahawks, Jacksonville Jaguars

Must-Know Quarterback Fantasy Football Stats

Joe Flacco (QB – CIN)

Since arriving in Cincinnati, Joe Flacco has been the QB15 and QB6 in weekly scoring. Over the last two games, among 32 qualifying passers, he ranks fifth in passing yards per game, eighth in adjusted completion rate, 10th in highly accurate throw rate and 15th in fantasy points per dropback. Flacco could easily flirt with QB1 production again this week. The Jets’ pass defense has been underwhelming this season, allowing the 12th-highest yards per attempt, the eighth-most passing touchdowns and the fourth-highest passer rating. Flacco should have time to operate against a pass rush that has the 10th-lowest pressure rate.

-Derek Brown

Jaxson Dart (QB – NYG)

Many fantasy players were afraid to start Jaxson Dart last week because of the matchup against the Denver Broncos. Yet, the former Ole Miss star had the best performance of his career, totaling 283 passing yards, three touchdowns and 28.4 fantasy points. Furthermore, he finished Week 7 as a top-six quarterback despite having only 11 rushing yards, his fewest total as the Giants’ starter. Dart has moved into the weekly must-consider starting quarterback conversation regardless of the matchup. Meanwhile, he has top-five upside this week in a rematch against Philadelphia.

Two weeks ago, Dart completed 68% of his pass attempts for 195 yards and a touchdown, plus he had 13 rushing attempts for 58 yards and a touchdown against the Eagles, scoring 23.6 fantasy points. Philadelphia has struggled to slow down opposing passing attacks since Week 1, surrendering 237 passing yards, 1.2 touchdowns and 17.9 fantasy points per game to quarterbacks. They gave up at least 240 passing yards, two touchdowns or 17.9 fantasy points in all but two of those contests. Dart is a borderline must-start quarterback with six teams on a bye.

Must-Know Running Backs Fantasy Football Stats

Chase Brown (RB – CIN)

Last week, Chase Brown had his best fantasy performance since totaling 13.1 PPR fantasy points in Week 1 with Joe Burrow. He finished last week as the RB19, scoring 12 fantasy points, totaling 11 rushing attempts for 108 yards against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Brown has averaged 9.1 fantasy points per game in the other five contests, scoring single-digits in 60% the outings. Furthermore, his role in the passing game has disappeared with Joe Flacco under center, totaling only four receptions for -1 receiving yard since the quarterback trade.

Hopefully, fantasy players can sell high on Brown after his performance in Week 7. Unfortunately, he is primed for a poor performance on Sunday against the Jets. New York has slowed down opposing rushing attacks lately after struggling early in the year. They have held running backs to 97.2 rushing yards, 0.6 touchdowns and 18.6 fantasy points per game over the past five weeks, allowing 18.1 or fewer in all but one contest. I wouldn’t start Brown as a top-20 running back this week, despite six teams being on bye.

-Mike Fanelli

Rhamondre Stevenson (RB – NE)

Despite fantasy managers constantly calling for him to be benched for TreVeyon Henderson, Rhamondre Stevenson has had a solid start to the 2025 season. His efficiency metrics are bad (although still better than Henderson’s), and his fumbling issues haven’t gone away, but he is the Patriots’ clear lead back. He has turned that role into a respectable 8.8 half-PPR points per game. I promise I won’t bring up the byes in every blurb, but they make him seem like a viable Flex or even RB2 this week.

Unfortunately, Stevenson is best avoided unless you have truly no other options. The Browns’ defense has shut down opposing backs so far this season to the tune of just 13.7 points per game. They have also allowed the second-lowest rush EPA, the second-lowest rush success rate, the sixth-fewest running back rushing yards, the second-fewest running back receiving yards… You get the picture. This is not a defense that even elite running backs have had success against, and Stevenson is not an elite running back. If you have any other viable option at all, leave Stevenson on your bench.

-Ted Chmyz

Saquon Barkley (RB – PHI)

Perhaps the Madden curse is real after all? Coming off a frustrating loss against his former team in New York, where Saquon Barkley was bottled up for just 58 rushing yards on 12 carries, expectations were that Philadelphia would ground-and-pound its way to a victory on the road against Minnesota.

At least half of that assumption was correct. The Eagles made it a point to get Barkley involved with 19 touches (his highest volume since Week 4), but he responded with a paltry 2.4 yards per carry (YPC) on the ground. Even more concerning was his lack of touches in the passing game, where he drew just one target. Barkley’s inefficiency has been notable — he still hasn’t recorded a game with more than 90 rushing yards this season, and has just three touchdowns on the ground through seven weeks.

Must-Know Wide Receiver Fantasy Football Stats

Darnell Mooney (WR – ATL)

Darnell Mooney returned to the Falcons’ lineup Sunday night against the 49ers. While he had only a 13.1% target share, he led the team with 68 receiving yards. In Mooney’s previous two full games played this season, he finished as the WR87 and WR43 in weekly scoring. In Weeks 2-3, he had a 21.3% target share while averaging 32 receiving yards with 1.03 yards per route run and a 26.2% first-read share, per Fantasy Points Data. Mooney offers sneaky Flex appeal this week against a Dolphins’ secondary that has allowed the 10th-most PPR points per target to perimeter wide receivers.

-Derek Brown

Romeo Doubs (WR – GB)

Romeo Doubs ran a team-high 28 routes in Week 7 and paced the club in receptions (six) and receiving yards (72) on eight targets. Doubs has tallied eight, nine and eight targets in Green Bay’s previous three games. He’s also had at least 55 receiving yards in four out of six games. Therefore, Doubs is in the WR3/Flex mix, but his 72 receiving yards against the Cardinals were also a season high.

-Josh Shepardson

Must-Know Tight End Fantasy Football Stats

Kyle Pitts (TE – ATL)

After the entire fantasy community finally gave up on Kyle Pitts, he is producing at a nice rate this season. He’s the TE12 in fantasy points per game, drawing an 18.8% target share with 47.5 receiving yards per game (1.49 yards per route run) and a 17.1% target share. He has three red-zone targets and a deep target. Miami has allowed the seventh-most receiving yards per game, the 10th-highest yards per reception and the 11th-most fantasy points per game to tight ends. Pitts should return TE1 value this week.

-Derek Brown

Juwan Johnson (TE – NO)

In Weeks 4-6, Juwan Johnson saw his role in the offense shrink. While his route share stayed steady, his target and first-read shares slipped. Johnson reversed the trend in Week 7. Against the Bears, he had a 71.4% snap share, an 83.7% route share and a 22.5% target share, per Pro Football Focus (PFF), which he turned into 79 receiving yards. Johnson could keep the good vibes rolling in Week 8 against a Buccaneers pass defense that has allowed the ninth-most schedule-adjusted fantasy points per game to tight ends.

-Derek Brown

Evan Engram (TE – DEN)

Evan Engram was yet again a steady option for quarterback Bo Nix during the Broncos’ wild, come-from-behind victory over the Giants in Week 7. For the second consecutive game, Engram finished with five catches and 42 yards, as he saw a season-high eight targets opposite one of his former employers. The veteran tight end has now recorded at least four receptions in four straight weeks, averaging close to seven looks per game in that span.

The Cowboys’ defense has been one of the easiest to throw on so far this season, and the unit allowed Washington tight end Zach Ertz to find the end zone last time out. Engram has only hit paydirt once to this point, but he could find a few openings for his second score of the campaign this Sunday.
