A top-10 SEC showdown takes center stage on Saturday afternoon as Ole Miss heads to Athens to battle Georgia in one of the season’s most pivotal matchups. With both teams coming off close wins and sitting inside the playoff mix, the stakes have never been higher at Sanford Stadium.
The Bulldogs open as 7.5-point favorites, aiming to defend home turf with an elite run defense, while Lane Kiffin’s Rebels bring a high-octane offense and plenty of momentum. Expect a physical, back-and-forth contest with SEC title implications on the line in front of the ABC Game of the Week spotlight.

Game of the Week
(Odds courtesy of FanDuel Sportsbook)
#5 Ole Miss @ #9 Georgia (-7.5) | 53.5 | Saturday at 3:30 p.m. ET on ABC
A huge showdown in the SEC lands us in Athens this week as Ole Miss takes on Georgia between the hedges. It appears that both teams may have been looking ahead to this matchup, as Ole Miss narrowly escaped an upset at home against Washington State, and Georgia needed a second-half comeback to beat Auburn. Both teams enter ranked inside the top 10 with SEC title hopes and playoff implications on the line.
The key matchup in this game will be Ole Miss’ offense versus Georgia’s defense as both rank in the top 25 in scoring. Ole Miss ranks 27th in rushing yards, and Georgia ranks 17th in rushing yards allowed. This game should come down to which offense can run the ball effectively and which defense can stop the run, forcing more dropbacks and pass attempts.
Trinidad Chambliss has played extremely well, stepping in for an injured Austin Simmons, but the door may be open for Simmons to regain his starting job this week. Regardless of who is at quarterback for the Rebels, I lean toward the Bulldogs and Gunner Stockton to be victorious on Saturday. The duo of Nate Frazier and Chauncey Bowens should be too much for the Ole Miss run defense to contain for a full 60 minutes.
My Picks:
Devy Spotlight
Bo Jackson (RB – Ohio State) | 2028
Coming into this season, it looked like sophomore James Peoples and West Virginia transfer CJ Donaldson would lead the backfield for Ohio State. Bo Jackson did not see a carry in Week 1 against Texas, but has since had no fewer than nine carries each week.
Jackson has taken over as the lead back with a 35% rushing share and is averaging close to 12 carries per game. This week, Ohio State travels to Camp Randall Stadium to take on Wisconsin and a top-20-ranked rushing defense. This will easily be the toughest defense Jackson has faced so far. With Ohio State favored by 27.5 points, he should see plenty of opportunities to showcase his running ability.
Heisman Trophy Race
The top five Heisman favorites after Week 7:
- Carson Beck (QB – Miami) | +320
- Ty Simpson (QB – Alabama | +340
- Fernando Mendoza (QB – Indiana) | +430
- Julian Sayin (QB – Ohio State) | +1500
- Jeremiah Smith (WR – Ohio State) | +1500
Carson Beck remains the frontrunner as Miami had a bye week. Ty Simpson moves up one spot and improves his odds from +750 to +340 after a massive performance in a road win over Mizzou.
The biggest win of the week belonged to Fernando Mendoza for leading Indiana into Autzen Stadium and walking out with a win over Oregon. He now has Indiana ranked third in the nation (their highest ranking in school history). Julian Sayin and Jeremiah Smith remain in the top five but flipped-flop spots after a quality win on the road over Illinois.
