NHL Fantasy Hockey Waiver Wire Advice (Week 7)

(Rosterships courtesy of ESPN)

Zach Hyman (F – EDM) | 61.3% rostered

This is more of a PSA than anything: Zach Hyman is back playing hockey. If you’re in one of the 38.7% of leagues where Hyman is still floating around in free agency, add him now. The top-line forward had that legendary 2023-24 season where he banged home 54 goals.

Hyman is also coming off a 44-point season (27 goals, 17 assists) where he ranked second in expected goals (38) behind Auston Matthews (41.1). If Hyman is still available, this is a no-brainer waiver wire pickup.

Andrei Svechnikov (F – CAR) | 59.1% rostered

I’m also surprised to see Andrei Svechnikov available in more than 40% of ESPN leagues. The Carolina winger has 10 points (six goals, four assists) in 18 games this season, and he’s averaging 2.7 shots on goal per game (SOG/G), which ranks 59th.

Svechnikov is not going anywhere; if anything, we should only see him increase his production. Svechnikov is logging top power-play unit ice time and averaging a solid 15:57 time on ice per game (TOI/G) this season.

Patrick Kane (F – DET) | 40% rostered

Gone are the 90+ point seasons of Patrick Kane, but with the silky hands and the hockey IQ that he possesses, there’s no reason he can’t put up 60+ points. Kane has only played in 10 games this season, but he already has three tallies and six assists across the 10-game sample size.

Kane’s shot production is still solid (3.1 SOG/G), he’s on Detroit’s top power-play unit and playing with Alex DeBrincat. Kane is worth a flier if you need a boost in offensive production.

Jake McCabe (D – TOR) | 37.8% rostered

If you need a defenseman, snag Toronto’s Jake McCabe. You’re not going to get a lot of offensive production out of Jake McCabe, as he only has nine points (two goals, seven assists), but he does rack up the blocks and hits on the backend.

McCabe ranks fourth in blocks (46) and is averaging 1.3 hits per game. With fellow defensemen Chris Tanev and Brandon Carlo still sidelined, McCabe is now averaging 21:32 TOI/G this season. He’s roster-worthy in the interim while those other top defensemen are out.
