Week 9 is now in the books. There are numerous storylines to track, but perhaps the most significant is the overlooked IDP players who showed out in Week 9. There were a lot of defensive fireworks in Week 9, so there are more than a few intriguing names on the waiver wire in leagues of all sizes. Let’s take a look at some of the names that may be worth some of your free agent budget.
Week 10 IDP Waiver Wire
Linebacker
Quincy Williams (LB – NYJ): 5% rostered on Yahoo
Quincy was excellent in his first game back, racking up three solos, four assists, and one tackle for loss in Week 8. It was Quincy’s first game since back in Week 3, as the veteran linebacker was placed on IR with a shoulder injury. Quincy is an LB1 option when healthy and should be rostered everywhere. Start him with confidence as a top-20 option for a plus Week 10 matchup against the Cleveland Browns.
Dre Greenlaw (LB – DEN): 2% rostered on Yahoo
Greenlaw was back from suspension in Week 9 and finished the afternoon with one solo, seven assists, and one tackle for loss. Dre dealt with injury issues for the bulk of the season prior to the suspension, but projects as an impact LB2 the rest of the way now that he is finally healthy. Treat him as such for a plus Week 10 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Drake Thomas (LB – SEA): 2% rostered on Yahoo
Drake was excellent in Week 9, tallying three solos, five assists, one sack, and one tackle for loss. Thomas has provided elite LB2 production since taking over for Tyrice Knight, and has been the LB3 in fppg since Week 6, and the LB11 since Week 4. Drake has been a starter for Seattle for the last three games, but was handed MIKE backer responsibilities when Ernest Jones went down with a knee injury, and could continue to be leaned on if the veteran misses any time. Drake is an easy LB2 play for a plus Week 10 matchup against the Arizona Cardinals.
Christian Rozeboom (LB – CAR): 7% rostered on Yahoo
Rozeboom was at it again in Week 9, racking up seven solos, eight assists, one tackle for loss, and one forced fumble. The Panthers’ middle linebacker has caught fire with seven solos in back-to-back games and needs to be treated as part of the top-25 conversation as long as he is cooking. Add and start him with confidence ahead of a plus Week 10 matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
Eric Wilson (LB – MIN): 6% rostered on Yahoo
Eric Wilson was excellent in Week 9, stacking four solos, two assists, two sacks, and three tackles for loss. Wilson has been producing elite LB2 numbers since sliding into the starting lineup and has continued to reward the coaching staff for benching Ivan Pace instead of the veteran when Blake Cashman returned from IR. Fire Wilson up as a top-25 option as long as he continues to start over Pace.
Defensive Line
Dre’Mont Jones (DE/LB – BAL): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Dre’Mont was excellent in Week 9, racking up two solos, two assists, 1.5 sacks, and one tackle for loss. Jones was on fire for the Titans, tallying a sack in four straight games, a truly impressive stretch in which all 4.5 of his sacks on the season have come. Now a Baltimore Raven after being traded on Monday, Jones should see a significant role, even in his debut, thanks to a plus Week 10 matchup against the Minnesota Vikings. Add him everywhere.
Jaelan Phillips (DE/LB – PHI): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Jaelan was excellent in Week 9, racking up three solos, one assist, one sack, and one tackle for loss. Phillips is having his best stretch of the season, recording a sack in two of his last three games and in three of his last five. Now up to three sacks on the season, Phillips should find more runway than ever with monsters like Jalen Carter and Jordan Davis up front. The talented pass rusher may be limited to passing downs until he learns the playbook, making him a DL3 with DL2 upside for a plus Week 10 matchup against the Green Bay Packers on Monday Night Football.
Jalon Walker (DE/LB – ATL): 4% rostered on Yahoo
Jalon Walker broke out on Sunday, racking up four solos, one assist, two sacks, two tackles for loss, one forced fumble, and one pass defended. Walker impressed in his first game back from a two game layoff due to a groin injury and is trending in the right direction. Now up to three sacks on the season, Walker is now an IDP option in 12-team formats. He still profiles as more of a bye week filler for now, but the talent is legit, making him someone to stash where roster space allows. Stash Jalon where possible.
Zach Allen (DE – DEN): 6% rostered on Yahoo
Zach Allen was excellent in Week 9, tallying four solos, one assist, one sack, one tackle for loss, and two passes defended. Now up to five sacks on the season, Aleen has recorded at least a half sack in six of his nine games, with 3.5 of them coming in his last four. A hidden star due to where he plays in the Broncos’ odd front, Allen is second in the league with 24 pressures. Tap him as a DL2 option for a plus Week 10 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.
Odafe Oweh (DE/LB – LAC): 0% rostered on Yahoo
Oweh was excellent in Week 9, racking up two solos, one assist, two sacks, and two tackles for loss. Odafe has registered four sacks in his three games since being traded to the Chargers, and is once again looking like the breakout edge rusher who tallied double-digit sacks last season (10) for the Baltimore Ravens. Fire Oweh up as a DL2 option for a plus Week 10 matchup against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
Defensive Back
Isaiah Pola-Mao (S – LV): 3% rostered on Yahoo
IPM went off in Week 9, tallying seven solos, two assists, one interception, and two passes defended. Pola-Mao has recorded seven or more solos in each of his last two games, making him hot enough to consider part of the DB2 conversation until he cools down. Treat him as such for a plus Week 10 matchup against the Denver Broncos. Make the add where needed.
C.J. Gardner-Johnson (S/CB – CHI): 0% rostered on Yahoo
CJGJ made an immediate impact for the Chicago Bears, stacking five solos, one assist, one sack, and one tackle for loss on 59 percent of the snaps. It was an excellent debut for the often maligned but usually productive safety. CJGJ is playing the nickel role for Chicago, but is being given some freedom to do what he does best. Gardner-Johnson is one of the more risky options as a player who has fallen out with multiple teams this season alone, but offers promising DB2 value with DB1 upside. Start him with confidence for a plus Week 10 matchup against the New York Giants.
Cole Bishop (S – BUF): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Bishop shone against Kansas City in Week 9, racking up four solos, three assists, one tackle for loss, and four passes defended. Cole had some key pass breakups for the Bills and is chipping in enough in the peripherals to rise to DB2 status if he can ever manage a game with more than four solos. Bishop has recorded four solos in five of his eight contests, while recording three or fewer in the other three. Still, with the injuries the Bills have dealt with at linebacker, Bishop leads the team in solos (27) and total tackles (41). Tap Bishop as a sneaky DB2 play where needed for Week 10, thanks to a tasty matchup against a crumbling Miami Dolphins franchise.
Justin Reid (S – NO): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Reid was excellent in Week 9, tallying seven solos, six assists, and one pass defended. Reid is up to 15 solos, 11 assists, 0.5 sacks, and two passes defended over his last three contests, making him a solid bye week filler or injury replacement for Week 10. The Saints have a plus matchup on tap against Carolina, which, coupled with Reid’s production as of late, puts him in the DB3 radar. Add and start him where needed.
Jeremy Reaves (S – WAS): 1% rostered on Yahoo
Reaves was solid in Week 9, notching four solos, five assists, and one tackle for loss on Sunday Night Football. Reaves has started to heat up, checking in as the DB14/S7 overall since Week 5. With four plus outings in his last five contests, Reaves has cemented himself as an upside DB3 option going forward. Treat him as such for a plus Week 10 matchup against the Detroit Lions.
