Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Pickups & Stashes: WRs & TEs

With Week 13 almost behind us — the New England Patriots and New York Giants still have to play on Monday Night Football — it’s time to look ahead to Week 14 and which players we should look to pick up at the wide receiver and tight end positions off the fantasy football waiver wire.

Week 14 marks the final week for byes, and the teams off this coming week include the Panthers, Patriots, Giants and 49ers.

See below for my top pickups and stashes ahead of Week 14.

Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Targets & Stashes

All players listed below are rostered in 30% or fewer of Yahoo! leagues.

WR Handcuffs, Targets & Stashes

Adonai Mitchell (WR – NYJ) | 2% Rostered

Over the last two weeks, with Tyrod Taylor under center and fellow wide receiver Garrett Wilson on injured reserve (IR), potentially out for the season altogether (that’s purely speculation), Adonai Mitchell has seen a lot of action.

With Taylor under center in Weeks 12 and 13, Mitchell has a 32.8% team target share, catching 10 out of 19 targets for 144 yards and a score. Not only that, but Taylor has attempted 61 passes.

No, the Jets aren’t good, but the passing volume has been decent, and a target share above 30% is considered elite.

Pick up Mitchell.

John Metchie III (WR – NYJ) | 14% Rostered

After Adonai Mitchell, John Metchie III is at a 25.9% target share, catching 10 of his 15 targets for 84 yards and a touchdown.

He doesn’t get the downfield work like Mitchell, but Metchie was close to a big day alongside Mitchell, but he dropped a touchdown. He’s also worth a pickup — get either of these receivers on your roster now.

Devaughn Vele (WR – NO) | 1% Rostered

Rostered in just 1% of Yahoo! leagues, Devaughn Vele has a team target share of 19.5% over the last two weeks. He’s caught 11 out of 15 targets for 130 yards and a touchdown. In Week 13, he caught all eight of his targets for 93 yards and a touchdown.

Like the Jets, the Saints aren’t exactly passing the ball around as if Drew Brees were the quarterback, but Vele is getting targets and is an excellent deep-league PPR option right now.

Isaac TeSlaa (WR – DET) | 1% Rostered

Fellow wide receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown could be out for a little bit with an ankle injury. If so, this opens up more opportunities for Isaac TeSlaa. He caught just two passes for 35 yards on Thanksgiving, but he also had a touchdown.

TeSlaa is a deep play waiting to happen, so there’s a boom-or-bust element, but I’d give him a chance. Only if St. Brown misses time, though.

Luther Burden III (WR – CHI) | 10% Rostered

The Bears’ offense is loaded with weapons, but over the last three weeks, Luther Burden III is second on the team in target share at 17.8%. He’s caught 10 passes on 16 targets for 106 yards.

Burden has been a decent Flex play in deep PPR leagues, and he’s seeing more action than DJ Moore.

TE Handcuffs, Targets & Stashes

Darren Waller (TE – MIA) | 30% Rostered

In his first game back, Darren Waller caught just two passes for 47 yards, but again, this was his first game in several weeks since suffering a pectoral injury.

I expect Waller to be even more involved moving forward, as he was a favorite target of quarterback Tua Tagovailoa.

Isaiah Likely (TE – BAL) | 5% Rostered

The Ravens took on an atrocious Bengals defense in Week 13, opening up the passing game for Likely to catch five passes for 95 yards on six targets.

While this is somewhat of a mirage given how bad the Bengals’ defense is and the Ravens’ offense struggling, they’re taking on another defense this coming week that struggles to cover tight ends. The Pittsburgh Steelers have allowed the fifth-most passing yards per game, so Likely could have another big game.

Likely is worth a one-week pickup to see how it goes in deeper leagues where tight ends can be used in the Flex.

AJ Barner (TE – SEA) | 13% Rostered

AJ Barner’s been a little hot and cold lately, but over the last three games, he has a target share of 22.2%, catching 16 of his 20 targets for 123 yards.

Barner hasn’t found the end zone over that stretch, but he’s getting plenty of looks and, like Likely, is worth a pickup, especially in a week with four teams on bye.
