Fantasy Baseball 10 Burning Questions

1. Has Jac Caglianone arrived?

Jac Caglianone was one of my favorite targets coming into the 2026 MLB season. After a slow start to the year, Caglianone is finding his groove.

Coming into Thursday’s action, Caglianone was slashing .275/.348/.456 with eight home runs in 227 plate appearances. He has three multi-hit games in the last four. It looks like he’s finally figured out MLB pitching. Wheels up.

2. How good is Braden Montgomery?

Braden Montgomery is considered a polished prospect, so it’s no surprise to see him hit the ground running with the White Sox. In two games, Montgomery has gone 4-for-9 with one homer and two doubles.

Playing for a rebuilding team where playing time is secure, there’s a good chance that Montgomery has value all year.

3. Will Tarik Skubal get traded?

Tarik Skubal has shockingly beaten even the most optimistic injury-return timelines and is set to return this week. With the Tigers continuing to fall further from contention, there’s a good chance that Skubal will be traded.

Detroit doesn’t want to lose him for nothing, and it’s unlikely that he re-signs there. After a few starts in which Skubal shows he hasn’t been impacted by injury, expect him to be dealt to a contender.

4. What is going on with Manny Machado?

Manny Machado is off to an abysmal start at the plate, slashing .172/.253/.345 with 11 home runs in 270 plate appearances. However, he has an extremely long track record. I wouldn’t worry about him just yet.

In fact, I recommend buying low on Machado. It’s only a matter of time before he gets back on track.

5. Will Sandy Alcantara get traded?

Sandy Alcantara has put up a 4.33 ERA and a 1.26 WHIP with a 17.1% strikeout rate and a 5.9% walk rate. These are underwhelming numbers for a former ace who many thought would bounce back.

But even with this disappointing start, you have to think that a team will trade for him at the deadline. That’s especially true with the Marlins stuck in mediocrity, looking for more prospects who fit their projected timeline for contention.

6. What happened to Taj Bradley?

Taj Bradley got off to such a promising start to the season, but he’s hit a wall lately. In his last three starts, he’s allowed a combined 13 earned runs in 13 innings. During this stretch, he has only 12 strikeouts.

While this could just be a rough patch, Bradley has to be on thin ice for you right now. If he doesn’t show any improvement in his next start, it may be time to cut bait.

7. Should you pick up Mick Abel?

Mick Abel was showing a lot of upside before his injury. But the good news is that he’s almost ready to return. Abel recently tossed three scoreless frames with five strikeouts in a rehab assignment at Triple-A.

Pick him up if he’s still on the waiver wire in your league. There’s a chance he can pick up right where he left off.

8. What’s the latest with Shane Bieber?

Shane Bieber is getting a lot closer to returning to the Blue Jays, set to make his fourth rehab start this week. While it’s been shaky so far, with eight runs over seven innings, we can give him the benefit of the doubt.

Pick up Bieber if he’s available in your league because there’s a nice ceiling here.

9. What to make of Michael McGreevy?

Michael McGreevy is one of the most likely candidates for regression. Don’t get enamored with his 2.99 ERA, as his 4.32 SIERA is over a run higher.

While he’s still a decent back-end option who you can stream in the right matchup, there’s not a lot of upside here, especially due to his abysmal 17.2% strikeout rate.

10. Is Zac Gallen cooked?

It really looks like Zac Gallen is completely cooked, as he has a 5.81 (4.68 SIERA) in 69.2 innings. I’ve fallen victim to streaming Gallen a couple of times this year, but it’s time for us to abandon ship.

You can’t even stream him in a good matchup on paper.
