Closer News & Notes

  • Cade Smith leads the MLB with 24 saves. He remains the lone closer with at least 20 saves on the year. Smith has allowed one run over 6.1 innings across five appearances so far in June. The Guardians also activated Erik Sabrowski from the IL for another high-leverage arm in the bullpen.
  • Aroldis Chapman missed time due to a hamstring injury, which has led to him making just three appearances so far in June. He remains the top closer to monitor ahead of the trade deadline.
  • Ryan Helsley made his second appearance since being activated from the IL, blowing a save on Friday against the Dodgers. He has allowed five runs (four earned) over the two appearances.
  • Kenley Jansen earned the save on Friday. He has tossed a pair of scoreless innings since being activated from the IL.
  • Caleb Kilian is the Giants’ new closer. He has tossed 6.1 scoreless innings with one save over seven appearances in June.
  • Daniel Palencia was placed back on the IL. The Cubs’ bullpen returns to a committee for saves.
