Tuesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings (6/23)

Parker Messick (SP – CLE) at Chicago White Sox

Parker Messick is having a stellar 2026 campaign. According to FanGraphs, he’s amassed the following numbers in 15 starts spanning 86.2 innings:

  • 7 wins
  • 5 quality starts
  • 2.70 ERA
  • 3.34 xERA
  • 3.44 xFIP
  • 3.62 SIERA
  • 1.10 WHIP
  • 8.1 BB%
  • 26.4 K%
  • 11.7 SwStr%
  • 26.8 CSW%
  • 96 stuff+
  • 106 location+
  • 105 pitching+

Messick’s matchup is mixed. The White Sox have hammered lefties, ranking fourth in wRC+ (110) with a 24.8 K% versus lefties, and they’ve been above average at home, ranking 11th in wRC+ (106) with a 21.7 K% at home in 2026. However, Chicago is tied for 22nd in wRC+ (87) with a 25.2 K% in the previous 30 days. The Guardians are only -110 favorites, but the game’s total is a pitcher-friendly 7.0 runs.

Shane Baz (SP – BAL) at Los Angeles Angels

Shane Baz is outkicking his peripherals, but he’s in rock-solid form. In his previous five starts, totaling 31.2 innings, Baz has knocked off the following numbers:

    • 3 wins
    • 3 quality starts
    • 2.56 ERA
    • 4.37 xERA
    • 3.94 xFIP
    • 4.10 SIERA
    • 1.20 WHIP
    • 6.8 BB%
    • 21.1 K%
    • 10.7 SwStr%
    • 27.5 CSW%
    • 96 stuff+
    • 103 location+
    • 100 pitching+

Baz’s matchup is tasty, and his betting info is decent. The Angels are tied for 15th in wRC+ (100) with a 24.8 K% versus righties and tied for last in wRC+ (83) with a 25.1 K% at home this year. They are also 29th in wRC+ (76) with a 31.0 K% in the previous 30 days. Thus, the Orioles are -156 favorites, and the game’s total is 8.5 runs.

Sean Burke (SP – CWS) vs. Cleveland Guardians

Sean Burke is dinged at FanDuel, where they score quality starts. The White Sox have listed him as a starter only to pull the rug out from gamers and use an opener. Burke can’t get a quality start if he’s a bulk reliever. Nevertheless, in his last five appearances (three starts), Burke has ripped off the following stats:

    • 2 wins
    • 1 quality start
    • 3.54 ERA
    • 3.55 xERA
    • 3.87 xFIP
    • 3.72 SIERA
    • 1.25 WHIP
    • 13.2 BB%
    • 30.7 K%
    • 12.3 SwStr%
    • 30.0 CSW%
    • 98 stuff+
    • 99 location+
    • 99 pitching+

Burke’s matchups are excellent, and his betting info is decent, squaring off with the aforementioned Messick. The Guardians are 25th in wRC+ (92) with a 21.5 K% versus righties and 27th in wRC+ (86) with a 22.5 K% on the road this season. Cleveland is also tied for 17th in wRC+ (96) with a 23.0 K% in the previous 30 days. The White Sox are slight underdogs (-105), but the game’s total is a pitcher-friendly 7.0 runs.

    Suggested Lineup Stacks

The Giants have a plus matchup against Aaron Civale tonight. The veteran righty has a 4.91 ERA, 5.53 xERA, 5.21 xFIP, 5.13 SIERA and 1.59 WHIP in a dozen starts this season. Civale has coughed up a .414 wOBA to lefties and a .330 wOBA. In addition, the relievers for the Athletics are ranked 28th in ERA (5.02) this season.

Roster Resource projects Ryan Johnson to start tonight, and he’s not a big-league caliber starting pitcher. The 23-year-old right-handed pitcher has a 12.83 ERA, 6.27 xERA, 6.66 xFIP, 6.19 SIERA and 2.33 WHIP in five appearances (two starts) for the Angels this season. He also has tossed only five innings in Triple-A and 20.1 in Double-A. Johnson lacks seasoning in the upper-minors, and the bullpen behind him stinks. The Orioles can tee off against him.
