Wednesday’s Starting Pitcher Rankings (6/3)

Gerrit Cole (SP – NYY) vs. Cleveland Guardians

Gerrit Cole‘s season got off to a late start while he was recovering from Tommy John surgery. He’s made the most of the delayed start to the campaign.

Cole hasn’t allowed an earned run in two starts, totaling 12.2 innings. According to FanGraphs, Cole has recorded the following stats in 2026:

  • 1 win
  • 2 quality starts
  • 0.00 ERA
  • 2.19 xERA
  • 3.69 xFIP
  • 3.76 SIERA
  • 0.71 WHIP
  • 6.7% walk rate
  • 26.7% strikeout rate
  • 10.65% SwStr%
  • 33.8% CSW%
  • 100 stuff+
  • 99 location+
  • 97 pitching+

Cole has a favorable matchup and even better betting info tonight. The Guardians are tied for 22nd in wRC+ (91) with a 20.5% strikeout rate versus righties and tied for 17th in wRC+ (92) with a 20.6% strikeout rate on the road in 2026.

Cleveland is also tied for 17th in wRC+ (96) with a 23% strikeout rate in the previous 30 days. The Yankees are -165 favorites, and the game’s total is 7.5 runs.

Chase Burns (SP – CIN) vs. Kansas City Royals

Chase Burns was scratched from his start on June 1st due to illness. With that night and Tuesday to recover, Burns shouldn’t carry too much additional risk, if any.

The young righty is having a sensational season, and he’ll look to stay white-hot. In Burns’s previous five starts spanning 30.1 innings, he’s tallied the following blistering numbers:

    • 4 wins
    • 4 quality starts
    • 1.19 ERA
    • 2.39 xERA
    • 3.10 xFIP
    • 3.10 SIERA
    • 0.79 WHIP
    • 7.1% walk rate
    • 29.5% strikeout rate
    • 14.8% SwStr%
    • 28.1% CSW%
    • 111 stuff+
    • 101 location+
    • 116 pitching+

Burns has a mouthwatering matchup and rock-solid betting info tonight. The Royals are tied for 22nd in wRC+ (91) with a 22% strikeout rate versus righties and 28th in wRC+ (83) with a 22.1% strikeout rate on the road this year. The Reds are -155 favorites, and the game’s total is 8.5 runs.

Walbert Urena (SP – LAA) vs. Colorado Rockies

Walbert Urena is rolling, albeit with good luck. In his last five starts, totaling 28 innings, Urena has amassed the following stats:

    • 2 wins
    • 3 quality starts
    • 1.61 ERA
    • 3.21 xERA
    • 4.09 xFIP
    • 4.27 SIERA
    • 1.11 WHIP
    • 10.4% walk rate
    • 20.9% strikeout rate
    • 51.35% groundball rate
    • 13.1% SwStr%
    • 29.5% CSW%
    • 96 stuff+
    • 111 location+
    • 110 pitching+

Urena’s ERA isn’t legitimate. Nevertheless, he’s pitched well enough to warrant SP2 usage on DraftKings in a plus matchup, with stellar betting info.

The Rockies are 26th in wRC+ (90) with a 22.8% strikeout rate versus righties and tied for 23rd in wRC+ (89) with a 25.7% strikeout rate on the road this season.

Colorado was also 30th in wRC+ (61) with a 28.2% strikeout rate in the previous 30 days. Therefore, the Angels are -160 favorites, and the game’s total is 8.5 runs.

    Suggested Lineup Stacks

Patrick Corbin‘s 3.65 ERA over 10 starts in 2026 doesn’t align with his underlying metrics, which include a 5.26 xERA, 4.22 xFIP, 4.38 SIERA and 1.36 WHIP.

The veteran lefty also has an unimpressive 17.1% strikeout rate this year. Furthermore, Corbin has coughed up a .341 wOBA to 662 right-handed batters since last year, making any of Atlanta’s right-handed hitters appealing stacking options to varying degrees.

Colin Rea‘s 4.70 ERA in a dozen appearances (nine starts) is ugly, and his 5.13 xERA, 4.22 xFIP and 4.18 SIERA aren’t high-quality marks, either.

Rea is relatively tough on righties, holding them to a .262 wOBA since last year. The lefties on the A’s are in for a treat, though. Rea has served up a .365 wOBA to 506 left-handed batters since last season.

    Core Studs

    • Ronald Acuna has hit seven homers with a .372 on-base percentage (OBP), .163 ISO, .341 wOBA, and 118 wRC+ in 250 plate appearances against lefties since 2024.
    • Ozzie Albies has mashed 11 taters with a .313 OBP, .162 ISO, .329 wOBA and 110 wRC+ in 402 plate appearances against southpaws since 2024.
    • Carlos Cortes has belted nine bombs with a .372 OBP, .213 ISO, .386 wOBA and 145 wRC+ in 242 plate appearances against righties since reaching the Majors last season.

    Value Plays/Punts

    • Bryce Eldridge got off to a slow start. However, he’s up to two homers, nine runs, five RBI, a .333 OBP, .206 ISO, .342 wOBA and 121 wRC+ in 72 plate appearances this year.
    • Josh Jung has launched seven long-balls with 28 runs, 27 RBI, one stolen base, a .362 OBP, .173 ISO, .370 wOBA and 137 wRC+ in 235 plate appearances in 2026.
    • Jung Hoo Lee has hit three homers with 25 runs, 20 RBI, a .343 OBP, .126 ISO, .341 wOBA and 120 wRC+ in 213 plate appearances this season.
