10 Burning Questions: Week 16 (2026 Fantasy Baseball)

Welcome to our weekly fantasy baseball burning questions article. Each week, I’ll dive into 10 key questions that are popular within the fantasy community.

These will be carefully chosen to ensure that only the most polarizing topics and players are featured. Let’s get into my 10 burning questions.

Fantasy Baseball In-Season Waiver Wire & Trade Advice

Fantasy Baseball 10 Burning Questions

1. How good is Troy Melton?

Troy Melton now has a 1.80 ERA in 55 innings this season. The underlying metrics look good, especially in his last five starts, as highlighted by a 2.01 xERA. Melton has nine strikeouts in each of his last two outings. He looks like someone who can stick on your roster for the rest of the season.

2. Should you pick up Trevor Story?

Trevor Story is almost ready to return to action for the Red Sox. While he was having an abysmal season, we can’t rule out his chances of providing value, since he’s got a fantasy-friendly profile with his power and speed upside. Pick him up off the waiver wire if you have room on your roster.

3. What to make of Luke Weaver?

Expect Luke Weaver to get traded by the Mets when they sell at the deadline. He’s been an effective reliever this season, so there’s a reasonable chance that he’ll be the closer for his new team. If you’re in desperate need of saves, Weaver is worth a look. I can see him getting dealt to the White Sox, as Seranthony Dominguez has been a bit disappointing.

4. Is Luis Robert worth picking up?

Luis Robert is almost ready to return to the Mets. He’s got enough power and speed to warrant being picked up, given his upside. It wouldn’t be a surprise to see him traded at the deadline, as long as he can show that he’s quickly back up to speed. Pick Robert up and see where this goes.

5. How good is Esmerlyn Valdez?

Esmerlyn Valdez has been one of the hottest hitters in baseball. He’s striking out over 37% of the time, so we’re going to see some serious regression on his .300+ batting average. He is still a hitter with terrific power. Hold him until he shows that he’s slowing down because he’s blistering hot right now.

6. Is Ryan Waldschmidt worth picking up?

Ryan Waldschmidt is worth adding for his strong plate discipline and fantasy-friendly profile, with upside in power and speed. While playing time has been a bit sporadic, the Diamondbacks would be wise to give Waldschmidt every day at-bats to show what he can do.

7. Is Luis Lara worth picking up?

Luis Lara is another intriguing prospect worth picking up, especially with Sal Frelick injured, which solidifies his playing time. While Lara isn’t as polished as Ryan Waldschmidt, he still has the power and speed upside that makes him worth a look. If you need speed, grab Lara.

8. Are the Red Sox back?

The Red Sox have now won 13 games in a row. It’s impressive to watch them do what they’re doing without Garrett Crochet. They look like they’re going to lock in a Wild Card spot, as everything is clicking right now. Just wait until Roman Anthony is ready to return to action. It’s wheels up in Boston.

9. Will the Blue Jays sell?

The Blue Jays have fallen 4.5 games back of the final Wild Card spot. They just lost two out of three games at home to the White Sox. Their postseason hopes are fading fast. I think they’ll hold on as long as possible, but their outlook looks pretty bleak right now. If they end up selling, we could see Kevin Gausman and George Springer shipped to contenders.

10. Is Tarik Skubal staying put?

Tarik Skubal is probably staying in Detroit since the Tigers are in contention. It seems like they’re content to see where they can go and risk letting Skubal walk in free agency. He’s starting to get in a groove, so expect him to provide elite production as usual for the rest of the way.
