Welcome to our weekly fantasy baseball risers and fallers column. In this article, I’ll identify three risers and three fallers based on what transpired over the previous week.
Given that we’re a few months into the season, there are more options to choose from. We now know how managers are deploying their players, with some surprisingly receiving less playing time than initially expected. We also have a few young hitters who are making their presence felt immediately.
Without further ado, let’s find out who this week’s biggest risers and fallers are.

Fantasy Baseball Risers & Fallers
Fantasy Baseball Risers
Luis Garcia Jr. (1B, 2B – WSH)
Luis Garcia Jr. has experienced a completely unexpected power surge. He’s already set a new career high in home runs with 19. Simply put, he is one of the hottest hitters in baseball right now. If you were able to pick him up, give yourself a pat on the back because he’s going to remain a fixture on your roster, especially as part of an underrated Nationals lineup.
Esmerlyn Valdez (1B, OF – PIT)
Esmerlyn Valdez is a prospect who finds himself entrenched in the cleanup spot for the Pirates. He’s been red-hot at the plate, showing 25+ home run upside. While we can’t get ahead of ourselves, as this could just be a hot streak, we have to acknowledge the chances that Valdez remains in the heart of the lineup for the rest of the season, especially with how much Marcell Ozuna has struggled.
Kazuma Okamoto (1B, 3B – TOR)
Kazuma Okamoto has struggled with strikeouts, but you have to be happy with what he’s given you in his first MLB season. He’s hitting at a 30+ home-run pace while maintaining a good walk rate. Okamoto is even more valuable in on-base percentage (OBP) leagues. While there will be peaks and valleys, he is a valuable bat you were able to snag late in drafts.
Fantasy Baseball Fallers
Austin Riley (3B – ATL)
Austin Riley was one of my favorite bounce-back candidates this season, but he just hasn’t been able to get it going. While I’m always a firm believer in trusting a track record, it’s hard to feel confident about Riley moving forward. While I wouldn’t sell low, he’s not a buy-low target either.
Vladimir Guerrero Jr. (1B – TOR)
I really thought Vladimir Guerrero Jr. would build off his incredible postseason and have a huge year, especially in terms of power. But that couldn’t be further from the truth. He’s showing severely limited power, giving you empty averages, so all he is right now is a big name.
Gunnar Henderson (SS – BAL)
Gunnar Henderson is another hitter I thought would get back on track this season, but he’s been a drain on his batting average. With that said, he has the type of power and speed upside that’s worth buying low on. Among the struggling hitters on this list, Henderson is the one you should try to acquire at a discount.
