Welcome to our weekly fantasy baseball risers and fallers column. In this article, I’ll identify three risers and three fallers based on what transpired over the previous week.
Given that we’re a few months into the season, there are more options to choose from. We now know how managers are deploying their players, with some surprisingly receiving less playing time than initially expected. We also have a few young hitters who are making their presence felt immediately.

Fantasy Baseball Risers
Curtis Mead (1B, 2B, 3B – WSH)
Curtis Mead has been scorching hot of late. In the last 14 days, he’s slashing .441/.500/.853 with three homers and one steal in nine games coming into Sunday’s action. It’s clear that the Nationals have put this formerly touted prospect in a better spot to succeed. This looks like a clear-cut breakout season. Mead has staying power on your roster.
Lane Thomas (OF – KCR)
Lane Thomas is another red-hot hitter. In the last 14 days, he’s slashing .395/.465/.868 with four home runs in his last 10 games coming into Sunday’s action. If you’re in a deep league, it’s worth a look to pick up Thomas, who has had valuable fantasy seasons in the past. Pick him up and see where this goes.
Taylor Ward (OF – BAL)
Taylor Ward has had a power outage this season, but we’re starting to see signs that he’s snapping out of the slump. In the last 14 days, Ward is slashing .286/.487/.536 with two homers in nine games. He slugged 36 homers last year, so perhaps the long-awaited power binge has finally arrived.
Fantasy Baseball Fallers
Teoscar Hernandez (OF – LAD)
Teoscar Hernandez has been ice-cold at the plate of late. In the last 14 days, he’s slashing .080/.179/.080 with zero home runs in eight games. While he has enough of a track record to trust in the long run, I can’t help but be a little concerned that we’re dealing with a declining hitter here.
Daulton Varsho (OF – TOR)
Daulton Varsho has really struggled in the last 14 days, slashing .125/.176/.156 with zero home runs in nine games. The one encouraging part about this is that he’s maintained an 11.8% strikeout rate, so at least he’s putting a lot of balls in play. Perhaps he’ll start to get going, since there’s a track record here, but we have to acknowledge that he’s been disappointing.
Gunnar Henderson (SS – BAL)
Gunnar Henderson was one of my favorite targets in the late first/early second round of drafts, but he’s been a huge disappointment, and there aren’t any signs that he’s getting back on track. In the last 14 days, Henderson is slashing .158/.175/.237 with one home run in nine games.
