Closer News & Notes

  • Cade Smith continues to lead baseball with 28 saves.
  • Bryan Baker, Jhoan Duran, Riley O’Brien, Mason Miller and Paul Sewald follow as the other closers with over 20 saves.
  • Louis Varland allowed one run in Friday’s appearance, but he remains one of the top overall closers in baseball since he took over that role in Toronto.
  • Aroldis Chapman was expected to be one of the bigger names available on the trade market, but with how weak the American League is, Boston now finds itself just 1.5 games back of the third Wild Card spot.
