Anthony Rendon (3B - LAA)
Tue, Mar 10
Player Note on Anthony Rendon (3B - LAA)
Great baseball player, contributes BA, which is rare these days, but no steals and one big career home run season? I am not buying in on 2020.
Mike Moustakas (2B,3B - CIN)
Tue, Mar 10
Player Note on Mike Moustakas (2B,3B - CIN)
Consistent 30 home run seasons eligible at 2B and 3B in an upgraded CIncy lineup. The Moose is loose and I am owning many many shares.
Jose Altuve (2B - HOU)
Tue, Mar 10
Player Note on Jose Altuve (2B - HOU)
There is a TON of upside potential for Altuve as much as 15 picks higher than where I am ranking him, but as I do my rankings I keep seeing players I would rather have and more and more doubts that Altuve will get back to stealing 20+ bases. Without those steals, the plus BA isn't enough to make me bite over the alternatives.
Nolan Arenado (3B - COL)
Tue, Mar 10
Player Note on Nolan Arenado (3B - COL)
Consecutive years of diminished stolen bases by Altuve and a drop off in elite strikeout SPs puts me in a place to select a "slugger only" player and Arenado is one of the best.
Carlos Carrasco (SP,RP - CLE)
Tue, Mar 10
Player Note on Carlos Carrasco (SP,RP - CLE)
Too many injured seasons for Carrasco throughout his career and he is having some soreness this Spring already. He has been "relatively" healthy over the last 3 or 4 years (2019 he had his physical issues), and I love the strikeout potential, but I can't help but be cautious here.
Zac Gallen (SP - ARI)
Tue, Mar 10
Player Note on Zac Gallen (SP - ARI)
With innings come strikeouts for Gallen and 2020 is the year he pitches more of them and becomes a relevant Fantasy SP. He is a steal currently and Fantasy owners need to load up on their shares.
Jesus Luzardo (SP,RP - OAK)
Tue, Mar 10
Player Note on Jesus Luzardo (SP,RP - OAK)
I want to move Lazardo further up these rankings because of his lights-out arsenal and pitching in Oakland helps those ratio's, but rookie innings limits are real and I am concerned that he won't pitch enough to reach his enormous ceiling. Guarantee me 210 innings pitched and he is a Top 40 Pick for me. I expect more like 130-150 and with some rookie struggles, that drops him down significantly. 2021 he will be hotter than Walker Buehler was.
Ronald Acuna Jr. (LF,CF,RF - ATL)
Tue, Mar 10
Player Note on Ronald Acuna Jr. (LF,CF,RF - ATL)
I wrote in 2019 that Acuna was being under drafted. This season I am seeing regression (in stolen bases specifically) that won't much matter to his overall ADP with one exception, he is my #2 rather than first overall, even though he has more potential to be the best statistical performer in 2020. Draft him 1.1 if you want, but Trout is the safer top pick. Can't go wrong with either choice.
Whit Merrifield (2B,CF,RF - KC)
Tue, Mar 10
Player Note on Whit Merrifield (2B,CF,RF - KC)
SOME power and above average speed makes me more bullish on Merrifield than the consensus. Stolen bases are becoming more and more rare, but the Royals were second in SB in 2019. That enhances Merrifields stature in my rankings as well.
Yoan Moncada (2B,3B - CWS)
Tue, Mar 10
Player Note on Yoan Moncada (2B,3B - CWS)
Moncada has imperfections but I can't help but dream on the tools. He is a physical freak with flaws that have prevented him from fully realizing his ability. I will continue to push him higher up my rankings than others do until I finally no longer can justify doing it. 2B/3B eligibility in leagues where he qualifies that way makes it that much easier to buy into the upside.
