Tyler Webb records first save of 2020 in Game Two Monday

by Lucas Babits-Feinerman | Tue, Sep 15th 10:43am EDT

Tyler Webb came on in the bottom of the ninth inning and shut the door as the Cardinals beat the Brewers in Game Two of a doubleheader on Monday. Webb allowed a leadoff walk to Jedd Gyorko before getting Luis Urias to ground into a double play and Jace Peterson to strike out swinging. The Cardinals improved to 21-21 with the victory.

Fantasy Impact:

Webb received the call in Game Two after Ryan Helsley got the save opportunity in Game One. It is interesting that neither Andrew Miller or John Gant were used in either game of the doubleheader because those two were the leading candidates for saves following the injury to Giovanny Gallegos. Miller had pitched in back-to-back days but Gant had only pitched in the Cardinals loss on Sunday. It appears as if Webb is ahead of Gant in the pecking order for saves at the moment. Owners in standard 12-team redraft leagues speculating on saves can roster Webb but be weary of his 4.99 xFIP which indicates he could be due for some negative ERA regression. It is also possible that Andrew Miller or someone else will be given the next save opportunity.
