Tomas Nido agrees to two-year, $3.7 million extension

by Vince DiSilvio | Mets Correspondent | Wed, Jan 18th 2:47pm EST

Tomas Nido and the New York Mets have agreed to a two-year, $3.7 million contract extension. He will receive $1.6 million in 2023 and $2.1 million in 2024. (Robert Murray on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact:

While Nido's value comes mostly from his defense, it is promising to see the Mets show commitment to the 28-year-old backstop. Between the signing of Omar Narvaez and the arrival of top prospect Fransisco Alvarez, it wasn't clear if Nido would have much of a role with the Mets. It's unclear if Alvarez will start the season as the primary catcher, so Nido could be in for a solid amount of playing time to start the 2023 season. He hit .239/.276/.324 in 313 plate appearances in 2022.
